115 years ago today, a fire broke out in the Triangle Shirtwaist factory, killing over 140 workers. The workers on the upper floor were unable to escape, as they had been locked in, preventing them from taking unauthorized breaks. This was not uncommon at this time.

Our housing crisis is putting Nevadans in an impossible situation. Rising rental costs, in many cases, are more than a mortgage for a similar home, yet those same renters struggle to get approved for a mortgage payment that is less than their rent.

The rollback of critical environmental regulations is nothing more than a handout to wealthy corporations, while working people will bear the cost of rising energy prices, increased risk of natural disasters, and skyrocketing insurance rates. It’s time for people-centered policy.

Reno is one of the fastest-warming cities in the country. We must take decisive action now to ensure that our people are safe from dangerous summer heat and increased wildfire risk. That is why I voted for SB 319 to better prepare our local communities for wildfires.

This past Wednesday, we hosted an incredible youth-led community discussion on the current state of affairs in Nevada and across the country, featuring Northern Nevada elected officials. We are grateful to Assemblymember Erica Roth, Assemblymember Selena La Rue Hatch, and Assemblymember Natha Anderson for joining us and taking the time to engage directly with young people in Northern Nevada. They shared valuable insight on the state of our state, provided transparency around Nevada’s 2025 special legislative session, and discussed where we are headed as Nevadans. @voteericaroth @selena4nevada @voteNatha

The Assembly Democratic Caucus condemns the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Under the Trump administration, ICE has become a danger to our rights, and the safety of our community. There is no place for dangerous and unaccountable individuals.

The woman killed by ICE today was a poet. She won the 2020 Academy of American Poets, University & College Poetry Prize at Old Dominion University. This was her bio: "Renée Macklin is from Colorado Springs, Colorado and is studying Creative Writing at ODU. Her poetry has been published in Metrosphere and Coronado Literary Review, and she currently co-hosts a podcast with her husband, comedian Tim Macklin. When she is not writing, reading, or talking about writing, she has movie marathons and makes messy art with her daughter and two sons." Giffords Law Center has released its annual ranking of state gun safety laws. Nevada received a B- this year—a 36% increase from last year. Giffords credits the improved ranking to AB329, a bill Asm. Roth introduced to make it easier for crime victims to receive compensation.
