Felt like talking for longer than usual about running OpenClaw and Hermes on Android, the possibilities of portable AI and the ridiculous cost barrier of some AIoT-ready devices. If you'd like a summary of what I'm doing or how you could can get started too, this is your video!

Today I'm leaving the Apple ecosystem and switching back to Linux. I own a MacBook Air M1 since 2022. It's been 4 great years, but my current relationship with technology makes it unfeasible to keep using it daily. 🧵I'm breaking down why:

The thing is, I probably don't need a full fledged ecosystem and the guardrails that make it possible. At this stage, I value the freedom of configuring my own system in my own terms. Linux gives me that, just as it did in 2015 when I started to code on my T400. And you? Have any of you left Apple's walled garden? I feel there's few of us here, so I'd love to connect if you read this!

On a similar note, iOS limits access to network shares in the background. I didn't care about this until I wanted to keep my Obsidian vault synced between my Apple and Linux nodes. Now my project (and potential workflow!) is paralyzed until I switch back to Android. These constraints are starting to get really annoying.

Finally! My Cardputer ADV from @M5Stack arrived a few hours ago. I'm officially welcomed to the cheap dope electronics rabbit hole. 😭 Do any of you have one? I'd love to know your favorite firmwares.

Following the post about AI Camera Assistant, we’d like to explain the feature in more detail. It doesn’t edit photos after shooting - it suggests 4 settings in different creative directions based on the scene and subject. You can choose any option or use your own settings.

If we define an ESP-32 as a connected state machine, we could just plug it a button and set states based on the number of presses, which in turn call different endpoints. We can then code a mobile app to flash OTAs with a GUI, and… we now have a customizable AI keychain.

This architecture has been living rent-free in my head for the past month. With one (or more!) spare Android device, you can build a portable AI node you can access from anywhere in the world. For days, I've only explored the idea of using Telegram alone, but... What if we added an HTTP fast track (@FastAPI should be the simplest solution) so you can just call pre-defined AI workflows with one tap? What if you just self-host your own model, expose an API in the OpenAI spec and just connect your harness there? What if you let go of the "AI is just for computers" mindset and embrace the fact you could even use a $5 ESP-32 as a client and call your systems from there? What if you mix all of these into a unified, modular ecosystem? Very exciting times ahead for personal computing. I'll keep you updated.

@nikitabier, when you use formatting in a thread, the first post containing formatted text appears as the thread's first post in the timeline.

How cool would it be if @M5Stack helped me break away from using LLM APIs by handing me an AI-003 pyramid?
