We’ve got a tad more technology now. We either stay on Earth, only, until a nuclear war, serious pandemic, killer asteroid, AI revolt, etc … or we don’t. Do we have the tech now, or will it be 10, 100, 1000 years? I don’t know. Do we HAVE 1000 years? I don’t know. Will the first colonists die? Probably. We’ll figure out why, fix it, and try again. Should we start with the Moon not Mars? It’s harder in every way except the rescue/resupply route being shorter. It’s time to send out the outriggers.
