In case anyone here hasn't heard yet, the wonderful Michael Wombat (previously @wombat37 here) passed away last night. He brought joy to everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed by all.

@planet_leesti It doesn't matter to me at all because as a reader I often picture a character a certain way and then the author describes them and I'm like "nope, absolutely not" and continue to imagine them how I was

@vspearson85 if it doesn't make it onto the page, does it matter to you how the reader pictures the character, even if that means they have a different image to you, based only on the clues and implications in the text?

@vspearson85 when you're writing a story, do you take time to imagine what the characters look like? I don't, and I think it shows.

@planet_leesti All of that will help shape the character even if none of it finds its way onto the page

@planet_leesti I do in most of my longer stories. I don't always for shorts. People tend to treat us differently/make certain assumptions about us based on what we look like. That will in turn effect how we approach situations and interact with people, what expectations they have of us, etc.

it's twice the price. Being told you have to give your email address for a receipt you dont even want, nothing being in the same place twice, roadworks on the way home, discovering when you get home that in your quest to look like a grown up for a change you've inadvertently
