THE THREAD TO END ALL THREADS. (Just kidding. Y’all know I’ll never stop doing threads.) Someone asked me to consolidate a bunch of my explainer threads into once place. Here are some I remember doing, and I suppose I could add to this over time:

The gap *within* The House is stunning. You have people who spend their days online or trying to go viral online. And you also have folks trying do the work. When Longworth and Garner were first elected to Congress nearly a century ago, they had little in common. Longworth was an aristocratic Republican from Cincinnati; Garner, a Democrat, was a prickly country lawyer from South Texas known as “Cactus Jack.” The served in Congress together and eventually became leaders of their respective parties, where they spent their days fighting each other. But every day at 5 p.m., they met up in Room 128 on the first floor of the Capitol where they “struck a blow for freedom,” Hill told us. That meant: they had a drink together. Hill said the relationship between the Longworth and Garner was a key lubricant to making Congress work back then. Hill has sought to revive that tradition with what he calls the “Longworth-Garner Dinner” series. Every few weeks, Hill invites a pair of his Republican colleagues and a pair of Democratic lawmakers to his house for a home-cooked meal and conversation. “It’s a way to build relationships,” Hill told us. “And those relationships have been integral to the work that I’ve done in the House – without any question about it.”

Thune this morning tells me he hopes to put CLARITY on the floor before August recess Also asked if he has to have a deal with Dems first or if he'll put it on the floor regardless-- signals he'd be willing to do the latter: "At some point, we’ll vote on it, yeah." Some Banking Rs want Thune to put a bill on the floor even if Dems aren't bought in yet
Jordain Carney@jordainc

Kennedy says he's been told the plan is to put crypto bill on the Senate floor during the third week of this current session (so later this month) Thune has said he would like to put it on the floor pre-August but bipartisan deal hasn't been finalized yet

Kevin Warsh on today’s inflation data: “There might be some that look at this morning’s data and say, ‘Oh, mission accomplished. Everything is swell.’ That is not my view.” politico.com/news/2026/07/1…

My main takeaway from this hearing is that Congress -- unsurprisingly -- isn't sure what to make of Fed Chair Warsh yet. Tone, line of questioning, all cautiously feeling him out.

I have watched a decade of hearings where Fed chairs do their semiannual monetary policy testimony, and this might be the most I've ever seen lawmakers actually ask about monetary policy

Brutal showing by IBM. The direct acknowledgment that clients have shifted AI capex spend toward core infrastructure — the question is how long the “reprioritization” lasts.
