At the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum, Vuk Velebit, President of the Pupin Initiative, presented our policy framework for Serbia–Romania cooperation built around three strategic pillars: the Danube, IMEC, and gas connectivity. Speaking at the panel “The Danube Corridor: Strategic Artery for Infrastructure and Security in Europe,” the discussion focused on the future role of the Danube corridor in commercial trade, military mobility, and the reconstruction of Ukraine. Particular attention was given to future gas reserves, the Neptun project, and broader energy developments in the Black Sea region. It was emphasized that Constanța has become strategically critical due to Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports, while also stressing that the long-term future must include the recovery and reintegration of Ukraine’s port infrastructure into Europe’s connectivity network. 🇷🇸🇺🇸 На форуму Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum, Вук Велебит, председник Пупин иницијативе, представио је наш policy framework за сарадњу Србије и Румуније заснован на три стратешка стуба: Дунаву, IMEC-у и гасној повезаности. Посебан акценат стављен је на будуће гасне резерве, пројекат Нептун и шири енергетски потенцијал Црног мора. Истакнуто је да је Констанца данас добила изузетан стратешки значај услед руских напада на украјинске луке, али и да дугорочна будућност региона подразумева обнову и поновно повезивање украјинске лучке инфраструктуре са европским коридорима повезаности.

The discussion featured Dr. Kirsten Cutler, Senior Strategist for Nuclear Energy Innovation at the U.S. State Department, Dr. Slavko Dimović, Director of the Vinča Institute for Nuclear Sciences, Đorđe Eremić, Director for Innovation at ElevenEs, and Laurențiu Pachiu, Senior Associate Expert at the New Strategy Center and Vice President of the Energy Policy Group in Romania, and was moderated by Collin G. Janich, Vice President of BGR Group. A one-on-one conversation with Radenka Marić, President of the University of Connecticut, brought an important discussion on how knowledge, research, and innovation can be translated into sustainable economic growth and technological leadership. Moderated by Vesna Damjanić of Bloomberg Adria, the conversation highlighted that Serbia has strong human potential, but that the next step will depend on strengthening entrepreneurship, better linking science with the market, and building an ecosystem that supports innovation. The session made clear that Serbia’s future competitiveness will depend not only on talent, but on its ability to turn that talent into products, companies, and long-term development opportunities. 🇷🇸🇺🇸 Један на један разговор са Раденком Марић, председницом Универзитета Конектикат, донео је важну дискусију о томе како се знање, истраживање и иновације претварају у одржив економски раст и технолошко лидерство. Technology and innovation were at the center of the second panel of the Pupin Connectivity and Investment Forum 2026, which opened a discussion on new opportunities for cooperation among Serbia, the United States, and Israel. The discussion featured H.E. Avivit Bar-Ilan, @IsraelinSerbia , @awheldon , Founder and Managing Partner of Charles Square Ventures, @vkm , Principal Director at Google AI, @elad_raz , CEO of Next Silicon, and @DraženŠumić, Director of Microsoft Development Center Serbia, and was moderated by Kosta Andrić of ICT Hub. The panel showed that Serbia has strong technological potential, high-quality engineering talent, and growing importance as a platform for partnerships in AI, digital infrastructure, and innovation. Richardson Fellow at @Heritage , and Kaush Arha, President of Free and Open Indo-Pacific, and was moderated by @MarkoSubo of @Insajder_net . Together, they addressed the strategic shifts shaping Europe today — from energy security and supply chains to Serbia’s place in a changing regional and transatlantic landscape. Eksperci z regionu Bałkanów przedstawili perspektywę opartą na lokalnych uwarunkowaniach i długofalowych priorytetach rozwojowych. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono roli Serbii jako kluczowego ogniwa w sieci połączeń transportowych i energetycznych. Wskazywano na jej rosnący potencjał jako regionalnego hubu oraz znaczenie Dunaj jako strategicznego korytarza transportowo-logistycznego łączącego region z rynkiem europejskim. W dyskusji nie zabrakło również tematów związanych z bezpieczeństwem energetycznym – w tym dywersyfikacji źródeł energii, rozwoju infrastruktury LNG oraz integracji szlaków przesyłowych między Morzem Czarnym a Morzem Śródziemnym. The visit was an opportunity to showcase Serbia’s innovation potential, academic strength, and broader strategic relevance in the areas of technology, connectivity, and investment. We are pleased to share a new joint study by the Pupin Initiative and the New Strategy Center on Romania–Serbia relations, examining how historical ties can serve as a foundation for deeper strategic cooperation. Focused on energy, logistics, and regional connectivity, the study explores how Romania and Serbia can move beyond a primarily transactional relationship toward a more integrated partnership built on shared interests and long-term resilience. It was a great privilege for the Research Department of the Pupin Initiative to work on its first international project, and we are proud to contribute to this important dialogue on the future of regional cooperation. 🇷🇸🇺🇸 Са задовољством представљамо нову заједничку студију Пупин иницијативе и New Strategy Center-а о односима Србије и Румуније, која показује како историјске везе могу да послуже као темељ за продубљивање стратешке сарадње. Студија је усмерена на три кључна стуба: енергетику, логистику и регионалну повезаност, и разматра како Србија и Румунија могу да пређу са претежно трансакционог односа на интегрисаније партнерство засновано на заједничким интересима и дугорочној отпорности. За Истраживачки департман Пупин иницијативе била је велика привилегија да ради на свом првом међународном пројекту, и поносни смо што доприносимо овом важном дијалогу о будућности регионалне сарадње.

President of the Pupin Initiative Vuk Velebit spoke in Belgrade with U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker and Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy Alexander Titolo, in a discussion focused on the further deepening of security cooperation between Serbia and the United States and the broader strengthening of bilateral relations in a changing geopolitical environment. As part of the Fellowship Program, our fellows also had the opportunity to visit the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade and speak with Ambassador Whitaker, Mr. Titolo, and other American diplomats, gaining firsthand insight into Serbia–U.S. relations and the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation. We believe in a new era of Serbia–U.S. relations, and we remain committed to that goal as an independent organization working to build bridges between our two peoples and states. 🇷🇸🇺🇸 Председник Пупин иницијативе Вук Велебит разговарао је у Београду са Метјуом Витакером, америчким амбасадором при НАТО-у, и отправником послова Амбасаде САД Александером Титолом, о даљем продубљивању безбедносне сарадње између Србије и Сједињених Америчких Држава, као и о ширем јачању билатералних односа у времену измењених геополитичких околности.
