@Kideo_Mah @Dinanzo7 I will be the first to say the words used by @duma_boko (openly tagging to prove the point) at the 2019 presidential debate were inappropriate hence what subsequently transpired.

The head of state in his own words quoted the legendary Ratsie Setlhako regarding the appropriateness or lack there of language.
He even hurled a few words to the then head of state, and it was all deemed fine and good.
So Mabeo is using the head of state’s script.

@banyezus___ Honestly some of his language is inappropriate especially towards the head of state.

@Kideo_Mah The core message is in the context of what @banyezus___ raised hence my response. It wasn’t about Hon Mabeo’s content but pitch.

I inferred his hand gestures as startling not necessarily slapping or clapping.
He even said, it's not possible. That closses whatever argument you want to raise out of that.
That wasn't the central point, so may we move away from a triviality and address the core message.

@Kideo_Mah Did you watch the podcast? He said, “ha go ne go kgonega e kare motho o ka mo riana(signaling a clap to the face)…

@wabpan @Kideo_Mah That's nothing compared to calling a heads of states/ founding fathers "Bonkoborwane, magogajase, dithodi". We're an engaged and enraged nation. Mabeo is living it. He was basically saying the president is sleeping at the wheel. Not nice but acceptable criticism in a democracy.

I’m sure it was a great experience. What is striking for me is the sustainability focus by the event owners. Heavily lifestyle focused to bring golf to what otherwise would be marginalized groups. If we are to host AFCON that is the level of thinking we must have. Given the huge capital required for infrastructure we have to have clear concrete plans on how AFCON would benefit Botswana on such a tight purse & better yet, ALL PRIVATE SECTOR LEAD!

This weekend I attended the @livgolf_league event in Johannesburg, South Africa , at the invitation of the Honourable Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture @GaytonMcK .
The LIV golf event is one the premier golf events in the world and was being hosted for the first time in Africa. Attended by over 100 000 spectators over four days, the event was a potent demonstration of Africa’s capabilities in hosting world class events. We have also said, as government, that we intend to position Botswana as an attractive destination for hosting sport events. This has not been only in rhetoric, we are putting ourselves to the test. On the 2nd and 3rd of May 2026, we will also welcome the world to Gaborone for the World Athletics Relays Championships. It is important that we learn from our brothers and sisters. South Africa has been a good example.
I thank my brother Hon McKenzie so kindly and look forward to his support in the development of sport and arts in the region. Africa is indeed poised to rule the world in sport!

@MillerKruger And that is precisely why things are the way they are in the country.

@wabpan Exactly, principle is consistently sidelined for convenience. Garena hlong at all.

I’ve seen people suddenly realign themselves with the UDC, people who once actively campaigned against it while quietly aligned with the BDP. I still remember meetings where voters were told to choose the BCP over the UDC if not the BDP.
That’s why it’s deeply disappointing to now see UDC cadres in the same spaces as those very individuals, people whose track record raises serious questions about integrity. Alignment without accountability risks diluting the very principles people claimed to stand for.
