I highly recommend this article by @tsalrashoud and @WafaAlsayed . I had been meaning to read it for a while and finally got around to it. Kuwait in the late 1950s/60s was an intellectual powerhouse that punched above its weight. Happy to share the non-paywalled link via DM

The Gulf states have increasingly avoided relying on Washington’s deterrence alone. Instead, they developed a strategy built on three interlocking elements: cultivating deeper security guarantees from the United States; pursuing de-escalation with Iran; and, for some states, engaging Israel. 4/4 In 1970 and as Bahrain was preparing for independence, Iranian claims were put to rest following a UN survey that once again confirmed that Bahrainis do not see themselves as part of Iran. So these statements are ploys by politicians benefiting from regional conflict.

3/4 The same publishing house also published Sawt al-Bahrain (1950-1954) magazine which often also disproved these Iranian claims.

1/4 It’s important not to give this statement unnecessary importance. Iranian parliamentarians have been doing this since the 1950s. Bahrainis across the board have always rejected these claims.
