I have been keeping a list of books/papers related to the economic history of the US South and decided to share it on my website, in case it is useful to anyone (#gid=935809225" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…).

@VincentGeloso @S_Surprenant I think Lindert and Williamson have occupational income estimates for at least 1774 and 1860. Still for the US, but could be at least a little bit closer in time. How specific are the occupations?

@S_Surprenant I was thinking of using occscores (scores by occupation). The problem is that the nearest one is from 1880 and for the US so I am uncertain about using it.

Dear economic historians on X, I have a dataset of occupations (with number of people per occupation) for 1831 in Canada. I want to create a social table to measure inequality. I do not, however, have wages or incomes reported for all professions/occupations. Any suggestions of what to do? Best V

@wagonweill @JohnJSSoriano You are aware the liberal justices were much more likely to flip their vote (literally 100% did). Trumps own appointed justices voted against him here 2-1.

How does a Supreme Court Justice reconcile being on the opposite sides of the IEEPA case and the Biden student loan case? I know there is a lot of statutory stuff but to my layman eye, the government's position seemed preposterous for the same basic reason in both cases.

Does anyone have favorite papers to assign to undergrads for US Economic History? I am having students choose a paper to present, but there isn't an econometrics pre-req, so I'm looking for some that are more accessible

After speaking with Chair Powell this morning, it’s clear the administration’s investigation is nothing more than an attempt at coercion. If the Department of Justice believes an investigation into Chair Powell is warranted based on project cost overruns—which are not unusual—then Congress needs to investigate the Department of Justice. The stakes are too high to look the other way: if the Federal Reserve loses its independence, the stability of our markets and the broader economy will suffer. My colleague, Senator Tillis, is right in blocking any Federal Reserve nominees until this is resolved. apnews.com/article/federa…
