Congratulations to Derek Cockell whose book "A Newt in Hard Tarn" was Runner-Up at the Lakeland Book of the Year awards 2024 in the People and Business Category, sponsored by Bookends. Derek’s book is a personal appreciation of the life and work of Alfred Wainwright. 1/2

Delighted to hand over a cheque for £12,750 last month to to the LDSAMRA at Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team’s Gosforth base. Mountain Rescue has a number of projects to fund, and we're happy for our donation to be used in whatever way will best meet MR’s operational requirements.

All book profits will be donated to Mountain Rescue Cumbria. Not only is the book a great read but you’ll also be supporting a great organisation who rely on public donations to support their life saving work.

Delighted to report that our fundraising for Mountain Rescue Cumbria over 2023/24 raised the incredible sum of £12,750. Massive thanks to everyone who helped raise this fantastic sum. We appreciate your support. This year our fundraising efforts will support Fix the Fells.

My copy of 'The Forest Trees of Britain' (1912) has a book plate from a Winchester College with a principal named Wainwright, signature very similar to that of Alfred the fellwalker, but I can't find any link between Alfred & Winchester. Book published by SPCK @SPCKPublishing 🤔

Huge congratulations to Tony Hudgell on becoming the youngest ever recipient of a New Year’s Honour. Tony, an Honorary Society Member, was awarded the BEM. He’s raised enormous sums for good causes, including over £50k for charities from his challenge walk up Orrest Head.

Got my @wainsoc Wainwright Completers certificate mounted today 😌 I’m number 1,376 since Alfred Wainwright completed the first round of 214 #LakeDistrict fells in 1965. It’s taken just over 3 years & has been one of the few positives to come out of covid (when I started with my brother @munro277) Have loved every minute of it - even the rainy days! 👍
