THE AZUKI IP EXPANSION FLYWHEEL 🔁
Disclaimer: None of this is confirmed by Azuki team, this is just my personal observation.
The diagram shows a three-way relationship between:
- The "Bucket Man" IP (featuring at ComplexCon)
- Azuki Holders (the NFT owners)
- The Azuki Brand (the overall project/ecosystem)

Base Layer:
This layer consists of the core Azuki IP - the character designs, world-building elements, and aesthetic that define the project. This layer is collectively owned and maintained by the team and the holders.
Application layer:
This layer consists of the creative works built on top of this foundation - things like "Bucket Man" at ComplexCon, and potentially future anime series, films, games, or other media. These can be created by various partners and collaborators, like Stephen Fung, and even holders.
Why is this big?
In traditional media, these layers are tightly controlled by a single entity. Disney owns Marvel and carefully controls how the IP is used. But the "open anime universe" concept suggests something more akin to a creative commons or open-source approach to IP building.
This model creates several potential benefits:
- Parallel development: Multiple stories and adaptations can develop simultaneously without bottlenecks from centralized approval processes.
- Creative diversity: Different creators can interpret and expand the universe in ways the original team might not have envisioned.
- Increased visibility through multiple channels: Each new creative project expands awareness of the base IP.
- Multiple revenue streams: Various adaptations create different monetization opportunities.
As more creative works are built on the Azuki "base layer," the foundational IP becomes more valuable. This increases both the cultural and financial value of holding an Azuki NFT, which in turn attracts more creators wanting to build on top of the IP. Each turn of this wheel strengthens the entire ecosystem.
