Coalesce of discredited lots that brought Nigeria to ICU before the bold intervention of @officialABAT cannot sway Nigerians from remaining faithful with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President... Theirs is a dead on arrival Coalition.

PRESS STATEMENT Abuja, Nigeria | 24 June, 2025   NIGERIA’S HEALTH RENAISSANCE DEEPENS WITH BRAZIL PACT ON DRUGS, DATA & DOCTORS” FG Advances Strategic Reforms through Bold International Collaboration The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken a bold step forward in its health sector transformation agenda with the deepening of bilateral ties between Nigeria and Brazil, focusing on strategic collaboration in pharmaceutical production, digital health innovation, and medical workforce development. Speaking at the 2nd Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism held today at the State House Conference Center, Abuja, the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, emphasized that the evolving partnership between both nations marks a new era in Nigeria’s health diplomacy, anchored in the priorities of universal health coverage, medicine security, and health system strengthening. “This partnership is a powerful affirmation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which is driving an ambitious Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative focused on expanding access, enhancing equity, and modernizing healthcare delivery in Nigeria,” Dr. Salako stated. Among the priority areas of collaboration outlined are: • Pharmaceutical Manufacturing: Nigeria will work with leading Brazilian pharmaceutical companies to scale up local drug and vaccine production, drawing lessons from Brazil’s successful Generic Drug Act and global leadership in biomedicine. • Digital Health & Data Systems: With Brazil’s strong track record in health information systems and surveillance, both countries will cooperate to strengthen Nigeria’s digital backbone for public health delivery and disease tracking. • Medical Education & Workforce Exchange: The pact proposes structured exchange programmes for Nigerian doctors, nurses, and public health professionals to receive advanced training in Brazil’s family health and primary care systems. The partnership also includes plans to pilot Brazil’s Family Health Teams model in select Nigerian communities as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s quest to accelerate progress towards universal health coverage (UHC). Nigeria is also proposing a dedicated Health Working Group and a Five-Year Joint Action Plan to operationalize commitments across disease prevention, research collaboration, and vaccine development. Dr. Salako spotlighted recent wins in Nigeria’s health sector as a strong foundation for this collaboration, including: • Revitalization of primary healthcare reaching over 37 million Nigerians; • Expansion of health insurance by 15% in one year through innovative schemes; • Establishment of 12 new tertiary health institutions and over 500 high-impact projects across 61 federal hospitals; • First-ever WHO prequalification of Nigerian-made medicines in West and Central Africa.   He also praised initiatives like the NASENI-TromentBiotechnology Factory and the upcoming Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) factory as evidence of Nigeria’s seriousness in unlocking its health value chain. “This is more than cooperation it is a strategic alliance for shared progress. Nigeria stands ready to learn from Brazil’s experience and to create a partnership that delivers real outcomes for our citizens,” he said. As Nigeria continues to prioritize health security, local manufacturing, and data-driven service delivery, the Ministry affirmed its commitment to ensuring that this partnership with Brazil becomes a model of South-South collaboration —impactful, sustainable, and people-centered. “Building a Healthier Nigeria: Advancing Universal Health Coverage & Strengthening Healthcare Leadership” Abuja, Nigeria The Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, @SalakoIziaq , has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030, ensuring that all Nigerians receive affordable, high-quality healthcare without financial hardship. Speaking at the National Executive Council Meeting/Scientific Conference of the @nard_nigeria National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) earlier today , Dr. Salako highlighted remarkable progress in expanding health insurance coverage and emphasized the need for stronger leadership and entrepreneurial skills among doctors to drive healthcare innovation and sustainability. Key Highlights from the Minister’s Address: 1.Advancing UHC: Under the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration, Nigeria has recorded a 15.7% increase in health insurance coverage, rising from 16.8 million to 19.4 million enrollees in under two years putting the nation on track to surpass its Presidential Priority target of 20% growth in four years. 2.Empowering Doctors as Leaders & Innovators: Recognizing that healthcare extends beyond clinical service, the Minister stressed the importance of equipping doctors with leadership and entrepreneurial skills to improve healthcare delivery, reduce inefficiencies, and create innovative solutions for better patient outcomes. 3.Strengthening Industrial Relations: Dr. Salako urged resident doctors and healthcare professionals to exercise patience, dialogue, and understanding as Nigeria undergoes critical economic reforms. He likened the President’s approach to that of a surgeon leading a complex, life-saving procedure, emphasizing the need for collective sacrifice and industrial harmony to build a resilient health sector. “The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare remains committed to engaging with healthcare professionals, improving working conditions, and ensuring fair welfare policies within economic realities” Dr. Salako assured. As Nigeria pushes forward with healthcare reforms, the Ministry calls on medical professionals, institutions, and policymakers to work together in delivering accessible, cost-effective, and responsive healthcare for all Nigerians. I have been inundated by reports of the absence of the president and vice president from the country. It is unprecedented that the two leaders will be absent from the country at the same time, especially now that the nation is faced with daunting challenges. The question that readily comes to mind is who is in charge of government at this point, or is it right to assume that we are on autopilot? -AA
