A guy bought a $1,500 Samsung TV 3 years ago.
He watched Netflix. He watched YouTube. He thought the picture looked fine. He assumed that's just what a TV looks like.
His friend, a home theater installer who calibrates TVs for a living, walked into his apartment and looked at the screen for 5 seconds.
"You're watching everything in demo mode. The motion smoothing is on. The eco dimmer is cutting your brightness by 40%. Your TV is taking a screenshot of your screen every 30 seconds and selling your viewing data to advertisers. And you're watching a $1,500 panel in the same picture mode Best Buy uses under fluorescent lights to make TVs pop on a showroom wall."
He changed 9 settings in 12 minutes.
The picture looked like a different television. The soap opera effect disappeared. The colors became natural. The TV stopped spying on him.
Here's every setting he changed 🧵

I work in IT for a mid-sized company. About six months ago, we hired a new guy, "Jake" . The second I saw him, I knew exactly who he was—we went to high school together.
The problem is... Jake made my life miserable back then.
I wasn't popular, and he was one of those guys who constantly mocked me. Nothing physical, but daily jokes, fake rumors, hiding my backpack, making the whole class laugh at my expense. It got so bad that I transferred schools during my senior year.
Fast forward a decade. I've worked hard, built my career, and finally got a shot at a management position. Then Jake walks into orientation.
He recognized me immediately and acted like we were old friends.
"Man! It's been forever! We should grab lunch sometime."
I just smiled politely and said, "Sorry, I think you've got me confused with someone else."
He looked shocked but didn't push it.
Over the next few weeks, he kept trying to talk to me. Every time, I'd keep it professional but never acknowledge our past.
Then HR announced I'd been promoted to supervise part of our department... including Jake.
A mutual coworker later told me Jake was upset because he thought I was embarrassed by him or hated him for "no reason."
Here's the thing: I do hate him. I just don't think saying, "You bullied me for four years and I never forgot," would help either of us.
Now some coworkers think I'm being cold because Jake seems genuinely friendly and says he has "no idea" why I won't even admit we knew each other

The continuity of visual details across shots is what makes a film feel like a film and not a compilation.
