As details emerge about the rescue of the missing Weapon Systems Officer from the downed F-15E, it appears to be a quite incredible rescue calling on a quite staggering degree of military capability and complexity. An incredible effort by Navy SEALs, Airforce Pararescue Jumpers and the 160th SOAR as they prevented Iranian forces from closing in, denied two C-130s that couldn’t take off due to the soft ground and extracted the aircrewman who had spent 48hrs on the ground evading Iranian forces with a bounty on his head. Whatever your feelings about the wider conflict, this daring rescue will live long in the memory and illustrates that only the US realistically has the capability to conduct this type of combat search and rescue mission.

Depressing to see unimpeded, undeterred criminality in London go completely unremarked - 5 mins in a Costa and three different people have walked in, filled their arms with stuff from the fridge and just walked out. The staff know but apparently see no point reporting it.
