Some kid survived being fully under water (ice cold) for ~2.5 hours (and possibly up to 3) bc he basically got cryogenically almost-frozen (so brain oxygen needs plummeted) Pretty insane

It is funny the furthest French that's ever been spoken from Earth was spoken by an Ontarian who had to learn it for promotion in the Air Force.

Today I learned there is an antique shop in Australia (JB Hawkins in Tasmania) that claims to have the skull of Thomas Paine.

The British Government is a complicated beast. Dozens of departments, hundreds of public bodies, more corporations than one can count... Such is its complexity that there isn't an org chart for it. Well, there wasn't... Introducing ⚙️Machinery of Government⚙️

People forget that in the 1990s, Britain was the fourth biggest manufacturing economy in the world. Through the 1990s the number of jobs in manufacturing *increased*. From 1993 to 1998, British manufacturing employment increased from 4.1 million to 4.3 million. Not unrelatedly, across the same timespan, electricity prices dropped by 22%. Our manufacturing crisis today is above all an energy crisis.

@wallaceme Greggs,Waterloo station the other week, in the space of about 10 minutes 3 thefts of volume (scoop up, walk out). Total staff indifference. Only evident reaction was a customer whose choice was no longer present on the shelf. (Before anyone wonders, I'm on crutches and too slow)

I sometimes wonder if @dannywallace is still claiming the rise in shoplifting is driven by people starving

Depressing to see unimpeded, undeterred criminality in London go completely unremarked - 5 mins in a Costa and three different people have walked in, filled their arms with stuff from the fridge and just walked out. The staff know but apparently see no point reporting it.

@hello_late Your case is currently that there’s nothing to get, there’s no benefit to getting it, and that it’s really important to not allow anyone to get those benefits.
