Companies Thales and ArianeGroup presented the concept of the FLP-T 150 ground rocket system (MLRS) along with a prototype guided rocket for it with a firing range of up to 150 km. The combat vehicle is built on the Mercedes‑Benz Zetros 8x8 truck chassis and carries eight rockets (two pods with four rockets each). The system is being developed as a proposal under the FLP-T (Frappe Longue Portée – Terrestre) program of the French Ministry of Armed Forces to replace the LRU MLRS systems currently used by the French Army. The LRU is a modernized variant of the American M270 MLRS. After four LRU launchers were transferred to Ukraine, the French Army now has only nine launchers left, of which six or seven are operational. Because of spare-parts shortages for the LRU systems, France considers it desirable to begin replacing them starting in 2027. France’s Military Programming Law (LPM) for 2024–2030 provides funding to purchase 13 new rocket system launchers under the FLP-T program by 2030 to replace the LRUs, followed by another 13 launchers by 2035. A competing proposal within the FLP-T program is the Thundart missile system developed jointly by MBDA and Safran, using a missile of the same name with a range of about 150 km. In addition, the French company Turgis & Gaillard is promoting its own ground-based missile system Foudre outside the official FLP-T program. It is primarily intended to use rockets from the American M142 HIMARS.
