Notification system working based on outbox pattern.
If my email provider fails to send the email, a NodeJS worker checks for the event and retries it.
After 5 failed retries, the event is labelled as FAILED.
So the admin dashboard can easily see failing operations.

Currently implementing outbox pattern in my platform. When a user buys a digital poduct, we have to do like 3 ops at the same time. Send a receipt , send the digital product, update the db. An outbox event ensures we can verify these actions are actually taken and complete.

Maybe you’re already in prod, but you can test with Mailtrap for staging, and Mailpit for dev. You don’t need to send emails to real accounts especially multiple ones. They might ruin your reputation.
With Mailpit, you can even add chaos testing.

@samkb420 @your_javaguy KISS. Using a message broker should be neccessitated. I already have retries, async processing and all that. Scalability is through postgres. Only reason I'd implement it is just to learn about message brokers. But my current setup achieves the same without another dependency.

@wamweaaa @your_javaguy I wouldn't call it overkill. NATS and RabbitMQ are lightweight and simple. If your MVP needs async processing, retries, or scalability, a message broker can be the simpler choice.
