Asking autistics, what were your initial thoughts upon learning that you were autistic?

@BendyLoneWolf @BadMedicalTakes It's so screwed up! And I get being desperate to lose weight, both for cultural/societal and health reasons, but it makes people so vulnerable to that kind of influence.

@wanderinghil @BadMedicalTakes It is really sad, influencers and celebrities constantly advertise what is essentially a laxative like it's normal and people don't realize

@BendyLoneWolf @BadMedicalTakes I used to work at a GNC and we weren't supposed to SAY "this is just a laxative" about that stuff... but I certainly did. Because the amount of people who genuinely thought it would do something miraculous was sad.

@BadMedicalTakes I'm genuinely surprised by the amount of people that don't realize many with eating disorders do take laxatives or consume things that cause a similar effect. People on Instagram advertising "slimming" teas that have laxative effects was super common for a while

Gentle reminder that most disabled people can’t leave the US. Countries don’t want to take in disabled, chronically ill & “high cost health users”. There are serious financial barriers to moving - leaving most people behind Spare a thought for them tonight - people are scared.

I was talking with someone about this privately, but all today's talk about community just made me realize how much illness has isolated me. Not being able to reliably BE anywhere, online or off, has left me super alone, and it's very hard.

@adultmomband Some of my earliest memories are watching friends and partners of my father die terrible deaths. I can't imagine trying to get those words past my lips.

@Mintmobile I don't even have money to go to another provider because... I paid Mint all my money. Like, I just am not going to have phone service.

So I've had @Mintmobile for like two years, gotten along fine with it, and then suddenly one day I just... don't have a signal. And contact them repeatedly about it for a month, only to be told I may not get service back despite having prepaid for months. 😭 But no refunds.
