Great to be at Heriot-Watt today with the #RestorationForth team stringing #European Flat oysters to be deployed to the #Forth tomorrow. Great to meet new faces, and with such a positive aim in mind.. to help reverse nature and biodiversity decline where we can. #ostreaedulis

A rather splendid terrestrial Harpacticoid Copepod adorned with ciliates found among leaf litter here in N.E. Scotland. I've no idea what either species might be. I'll make slides & preserve additional specimens in alcohol. for @NtlMuseumsScot

An interesting paper in @DiversityMDPI on the decline of taxonomists. This is something which has needed to be addressed for a long time. When we are facing a biodiversity crisis, knowledge of the species we share the planet with is indispensable mdpi.com/1424-2818/15/1…

Specimens like this coral and sea pen are preserved in alcohol (not the drinking kind). We use ~100% ethanol for those we want to preserve the DNA of 🧬 [4/9]

So good to see this - we must get back to Mingulay to see how the reefs are doing and how associated species might be changing. New projects needed!
