@footyindustryAU @warrenwfarrow I thought he might be meaning WAFC but not sure. I do think the afl is quite compromised given they need the Suns to work. They’ve given them outrageous levels of assistance they don’t give other clubs.

It doesnt matter what the AFL does if clubs like Essendon and Carlton operate circuses instead of football clubs. Carlton havent made a Grand Final since 1999, and even then werent a serious contender. Essendon havent won a final in so long its a meme. None of that is to do with AFL policy. The clubs are run by idiots who cant keep players happy or fit or at the clubs. Carlton in particular have had so many father/sons and number 1 draft picks that you start to question why the draft is even a thing. Then theres the Tigers. Its like they won a couple and were like "yeah we're done now, thanks for coming, see you in another 30"

@footyindustryAU It’s definitely not all the AFL. But we are now seeing more and more teams hang at the bottom for a long time, despite the salary cap, soft cap, and other measures. The main reason (not only) being the compromised draft imo.

@footyindustryAU I think you mean, “Just about everything in the AFL is desired to be perceived as equal”. If the primary document, the fixture ISNT EQUAL….

Just about everything in the AFL is supposed to be equal. Which leaves us with facilities, the one aspect of the game that is truly left to market forces. sen.com.au/news/2026/03/2…

@1djccjc1 @footyindustryAU Can’t wait for the Bears. The WAFC and AFL have been screwing Freo and WA for 31 years. You will see my viewer ship switch.

TheWest: In an attempt to build interest in the New South Wales and Queensland markets, the league is neglecting its base — particularly those in Western Australia and South Australia — and somehow adding yet another layer of inequality to an already laughable fixture. We shouldn’t expect the VFL — sorry, AFL — to understand. They never have. Neither have the majority of Melbourne’s media. thewest.com.au/sport/afl/ryan…

We’ve already seen a number of articles and radio discussions about which code reigns supreme after Vlandys made some remarks on the matter in Vegas. Heres our more extensive version. footyindustry.com/index.php/2026…

@footyindustryAU Apols. I mean AFL clubs. WC and Freo are wholly owned by the WAFC as you’re aware. If you read years of @WAFootball annual reports they wish to self generate funds. @WestCoastEagles profits that are suppose to go to their owner could be a good place to start!!!

they have 7.5m in cash, with 67m in investments. And the AFL is not supposed to fund WA footy. Thats the WAFCs job - they want independence. And again, that 11m is the price paid to move the WAFC and its AFL licenses from the long term lease they held at Subiaco to Optus Stadium.

14.02.2026 AAMI AFL Origin Delivers $1 Million Boost for Western Australian Community Football As the Big V and Sandgropers prepare to clash in front of a sold-out Optus Stadium for AAMI AFL Origin, the AFL today announced a major funding boost for Western Australia’s local football community. In collaboration with the WA Government and WA Football, all profits from ticket sales of AAMI AFL Origin will be allocated into a new initiative - the Origin Community Fund. It is projected that more than $1 million will be invested into grassroots and regional development through the Origin Community Fund, ensuring the success of AAMI AFL Origin flows directly back into community football to strengthen talent pathways across the state. The Origin Community Fund will focus on delivering a multi-year investment into regional and rural hubs to increase equity and access; providing talent pathways and coaching opportunities as well as the implementation of school-based and participation programs, so that everyone can love and connect with Australia’s game.

In the #Hundred all counties but Yorkshire and Lancashire retained at least 50% ownership (Yorkshire sold up completely and Lancashire retained 30%) of the franchise. #IPL owners bought into 4 of the 8 clubs - 3 are being renamed at present with GMR unlikely to use the Capitals IPL nickname in Hampshire. The sale yielded around AU$1.152b - to be split amongst the counties, with total club valuations in excess of AU$2.175b. The average sale was AU$144m, with the Spirit coming in at AU$283m for 49%m, while Manchesters 70% selloff yielded AU$227m. Data: BBC, ESPN

@warrenwfarrow 11m a year isnt leaching. Its about what they would have made from Subiaco if they were still using it. 11m was the price to make them move the AFL teams to Optus.

@footyindustryAU The game of test cricket has moved on, 3.6 days average for the last 50 tests. I think they need the only schedule 4 day test matches but have one more test and make them closer together.
