Indonesian Military Personnel Shoot Two Minors in Intan Jaya While They Were Building St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church
Press Release No. III
Central Headquarters Management of the TPNPB National Command
Monday, 29 June 2026
Please read the report below.
The Central Headquarters Management of the TPNPB National Command has received a report from the TPNPB Intelligence Service (PIS) in Sugapa that Indonesian military personnel conducted an operation and shot two youths under the age of 18 on 29 June 2026 at approximately 12:00 p.m. The victims, identified as Daud Hagismijau and Kiko Hagismijau, were reportedly working alongside other civilians on the construction of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Titigi Village, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, Papua.
Both victims reportedly sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and the back of their thighs, leaving them unable to walk. They remain in Titigi Village. The report also states that after the shooting, Indonesian military personnel took control of the main access route from Sugapa town to Titigi Village and toward Puncak Regency in order to block additional displaced civilians fleeing from villages in the Agisiga, Hitadipa, and Sugapa districts.
According to the statement, these displacements were caused by Indonesian military operations and alleged drone bomb attacks on churches and civilian homes in the Hitadipa, Sugapa, and Agisiga districts. It further alleges that, in addition to drone strikes, Indonesian military forces have conducted ground operations from 26–29 June 2026 in Intan Jaya, resulting in the destruction of public facilities and the large-scale displacement of civilians from the three districts, with many seeking refuge in forests and in Sugapa town.
In response, the Central Headquarters Management of the TPNPB National Command strongly condemns what it describes as Indonesian military drone bomb attacks that allegedly destroyed a church, burned civilian homes, and damaged other civilian infrastructure during ground operations. The organization also claims that the shooting of two minors while they were helping build St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church constitutes a crime against humanity.
The statement further argues that the Indonesian military's use of heavy weapons in operations in Intan Jaya between 26–29 June 2026 constitutes war crimes and crimes against humanity. It calls on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to pay serious attention to the conflict in Papua. The statement also claims that more than 122,931 civilians have been displaced across Papua due to the armed conflict and that the humanitarian crisis has not received sufficient attention from the United Nations or the International Committee of the Red Cross. It urges the UN to authorize the UN Security Council and the UN Human Rights Council to investigate and monitor the humanitarian situation in Papua.
This concludes Press Release No. III issued by Sebby Sambom, spokesperson for the TPNPB-OPM, on Monday, 29 June 2026.
