Director of Perfect Crown: “IU and Byeon Woo-seok told me first, ‘We’ll upload apology statements ourselves’… I felt so sorry for them.” During an interview with Sports Kyunghyang held at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 19th, director Park said, “Rather than the actors apologizing for this drama, I believe the responsibility to apologize lies much more heavily with me as the director,” while standing up for the lead actors. Amid the intense criticism surrounding the drama, IU and Byeon Woo-seok also reportedly felt a heavy sense of responsibility. Director Park revealed, “Even though actors are people whose job is simply to portray the roles they are given as best as they can, they naturally came to me and said, ‘We’ll personally post apology statements ourselves.’” He continued, “Hearing that made me feel incredibly sorry toward them as a director. I wish I could have created a better drama that would receive more positive evaluations, but I couldn’t.” He added, “On the night the final episode aired, I really wanted to personally tell every single actor who worked hard on set that they did a great job. But because of all these controversies, it feels like the sweat and effort the actors poured into this project never received proper recognition. As a director, that pains me deeply,” expressing his heartbreak.
