I don’t think you need 5 CB’s and four players who are either LB’s or played significant minutes at LB. Lots of potential match winners and variety of player missing out now to fit in overkill of defenders. I also don’t think you need both Watkins and Toney alongside Kane.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Plenty of overreaction to the England World Cup Squad announcement for me... 🔟 Palmer/Foden have both shown themselves to be ineffective on the wings before, and with Rogers/Bellingham preferred at 10, there is no room for them. This directly effects Gibbs-White too, as he has clearly had a great season, but he realistically would not be getting any game time. 🔒 At the back Guehi and Konsa are locks, so not sure it really matters who their backups are - and Stones is still quality when he is fit. 9️⃣ Watkins is the backup to Kane, so Toney is surely just there for penalties if required. 🤷‍♂️ Jordan Henderson has been in all of Tuchel's squads, so it is hardly a surprise to see him there for experience again. Conversely Trent has not been favoured at all, so again no real surprise. I personally feel Lewis Hall is the hardest done by, as I would have liked him as the backup LB - but in O'Reilly we trust 🫡 ❓ Overall, there isn't anyone who wasn't picked who could trouble our best XI below, is there? We have wanted our manager to pick a squad rather than just the 'star names' for ages. Tuchel has done that.

The reality is you need 15/16 top-class, fully fit, in-form players to go deep in a World Cup and Tuchel probably has that. But while that means the make-up of the rest of the squad doesn’t really matter, it is worrying and frankly abysmal that he has made so many bad picks.
