China’s Spying Eyes, Russia’s Missing Eyes, and Iran’s Precise Missile Strikes Report that Russia is relaying ISR to Iran is poppycock. China is Iran’s trusted partner. China has 9-10x satellite fleet of Russia. Tehran knows Kremlin is untrustworthy and could turn the switch off at anytime. WaPo got the ball rolling with its 6 Mar ‘26 story that the Kremlin is helping Iran. Even trusted accounts on X ran with it (is WaPo a trusted source?🤦‍♂️). Russia may be helping Iran with HUMINT, etc. but not with satellite-based “Intel, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance” (ISR). Russia has a small sat fleet (incl. Jurassic age models), and had to piggyback on Starlink. Space-based ISR is indispensable for “boom-boom”: PLA’s satellites identify and geolocate the target; Iran’s missiles “obliterate” it. For e.g., THAAD radars, where a decoy was ignored and the concealed THAAD radar was hit precisely. Russian military aid is alleged by OSINT, but this aid is like Yeti sightings: no probabtive evidence. Yes, EW equipment and Hind helicopters were supplied, but nothing that would upset Tel Aviv, e.g., the Su-35 jets that would have helped defend Iran against US-Israeli aggression and save Iranian lives. Tehran is wary of Moscow (viz., Putin, who has revealed antipathies towards Iran). Hypothetically, if Russia had satellites to spare, Tehran will not trust the Kremlin. This is not to bash Russia: trust in personal, professional, and international relationships is acquired by deeds and takes years or decades to develop. China has done this hard work for 47 years.
