@kingstonwrites I’ve been thinking (i.e., as I scan/search the streaming options) that this show looks interesting, and so was wondering if I should check it out. I will definitely do so now! Thanks, for the heads-up. 👍

@animallawcanada Hopefuuly, the relevant authorities (and/or decision-makers) will base their considerations and judgement with the best interests of the dog being the top priority.

2/2 I’m acting for the dog rescue. The case raises questions on adoption and rescue guidelines, and best interest of rescue animals. Stay tuned.

1/2 Today, I’m continuing an important hearing on whether a dog rescue was wrong in refusing to adopt a dog to someone who claims was the dog’s co-owner after the dog was already adopted to a new loving home.

@acoyne CNN’s Jake Tapper (& other talking-heads at CNN; and CNN is not alone) don’t do true inquiry, deep analysis, and certainly not nuance. They pretend at complex, hard-hitting inquiry by reverting to — as you stated — “blind both sideism”. Call it “Mike Wallace” envy, maybe?

Zing! Only…. There’s a difference between offering preemptive pardons for lawbreakers against an administration that respects the rule of law, and offering preemptive pardons for people who have broken no laws against an administration whose only use for the law is as a weapon against its political enemies. Just because Trump and co. use the same language as Biden shouldn’t blind us to the fact that they mean opposite things by it. The temptation to blind both-sidesism must be resisted.
Jake Tapper 🦅@jaketapper

On Dec 3, 2020, I asked President-elect Biden, about reports that Trump was considering preemptive pardons. He said “it concerns me in terms of what kind of precedent it sets, and how the rest of the world looks at us as a nation of laws and justice” transcripts.cnn.com/show/se/date/2…

@animallawcanada Thank YOU for advocating on behalf of the far too many innocents (i.e. critters with no one to speak for them). You are very much appreciated. I wish you, your family, your loved ones, and all the innocent animals you fight for the best this holiday season, in 2025, and beyond.🙌

/1 - As I reflect on my work in 2024, here are some key highlights that I hope will set precedents for animal law in Canada:

@kingstonwrites And Merry Xmas (no relation to X) to you, too! (Not sure what the llama has to do with anything. I just know I like its seasonal vibe.)

2/2 One of the arguments is that the Charter has to be interpreted liberally & according to today’s societal values. Animals are more than just “property” and law enforcement needs to treat them like sentient beings and not just like any other property they’d seize. Stay tuned…

1/2 - On Oct 21/22, I will be arguing the first Constitutional Charter challenge in Canada that is being fully canvassed. Involves the wrongful seizure of my client’s dog who sustained a broken jawbone, torn gums, teeth hanging out from his face (& more!) during seizure.

@animallawcanada That is excellent news! No pets should ever be considered property (as if they’re inanimate objects???), so getting dogs (and hopefully cats) — as a beginning point — legally recognized as sentient is fantastic.

My legal win this month is an important precedent for all who rescue dogs: I represented a #dogrescue & guardian vs. claimed original owner. Dog found abandoned 3yrs ago. Judge ruled for us, prioritizing dog's best interests & recognizing dogs as sentient, not property.#animallaw

@kingstonwrites Grand balls req’d learning difficult social skills like basic etiquette (including dining rules); grooming; how and what to wear; banter (& manners); reading a room; how/what to drink; basic awareness of daily topics; knowing at least 3 key partner-dances. Oh god, Scary! Ack.😁

Not ideal that dating went from having grand balls with music and dancing to swiping through selfies and sending an occasional fire emoji no wonder we are going extinct

So far this week, I’m dealing with 2 pet custodies, 2 dogs on death row, 3 veterinary malpractice cases, and a confidential wildlife matter. It’s only Tuesday - going to be another busy week!
