WCPD’s Crisis Negotiation Team and members of Mobile Crisis Response Teams from around Westchester train together at the Police Academy. MCRT is an invaluable partner in resolving calls for service that involve persons in emotional crisis or who have mental health issues.

The WCPD is working in collaboration with federal law enforcement partners to receive and share intelligence information associated with the military action in Iran. We will share information immediately with municipal agencies regarding any potential threats to Westchester.

Due to ongoing hazardous road conditions caused by the winter storm, Westchester County is extending the current travel ban until noon today, February 23. Roads are closed to all but essential travel (police, fire, EMS, utility/public works, media and hospital/medical personnel).

Westchester County will institute a complete road ban beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, Sunday, Feb. 22, through 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23. Travel is permitted only for essential services such as police, fire , EMS, utility/public works and hospital/medical personnel.

250 officers from numerous agencies recently conducted a multi-county Drivers of Violence Enforcement (DOVE) detail to confront a variety of criminal activity. The results: 38 arrests and 119 summonses. Our thanks to @NYPD47Pct and @NYPD43Pct for their leadership on this effort.

Westchester County and the Village of Mount Kisco have finalized an intermunicipal agreement that formalizes the provision of police services, delivering significant cost savings while maintaining high-quality public safety for residents. The agreement allows Mount Kisco to continue receiving police services through the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, avoiding the expense of operating a standalone police department and reducing long-term financial pressure on local taxpayers. The agreement, approved by the Westchester County Board of Legislators and Mount Kisco officials, establishes a clear framework for police services, oversight and coordination. By sharing resources and personnel, the County and the Village are eliminating duplication, controlling rising public safety costs, and ensuring stable, predictable service delivery. Sgt. Charles Rice passed away as result of a disease he contracted from a prisoner during a transport in December 1987. The prisoner was infected with Hepatitis C, which was passed onto to Sgt. Rice. He was diagnosed with the disease in 1996 and died on Jan. 9, 2009. He was 53.

Due to flooding, the Bronx River Parkway is being closed in both directions between Main St. in White Plains and the Sprain Brook Parkway split in Yonkers. In addition, significant flooding is occurring on the Hutchinson River Parkway near Mill Road in Eastchester.

Before a packed house at the Police Academy, Commissioner Raynor this morning promoted three members to higher ranks - to captain, lieutenant and sergeant; designated three police officers as detectives, and swore in four new members to the WCPD. Congrats to all!

WCPD members participated in a state press conference today that highlighted an 18% decline in index crimes in the County in the past year. In addition, WCPD displayed and demonstrated a variety of specialized equipment and technology that was purchased with state grant funding.

Under legislation signed into law today, WCPD Patrol officers will soon begin carrying EpiPens to enhance emergency response in Westchester to life-threatening incidents of anaphylactic shock.

The S/B lanes of the Bronx River Parkway are closed near Strathmore Road due to an accident investigation. S/B traffic is being diverted off the parkway at several locations north of Strathmore Road. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route for the next few hours.

The Saw Mill River Parkway is closed s/b at Farragut Parkway in Hastings due to a sinkhole. All s/b traffic is being detoured at Lawrence St. in Dobbs Ferry. N/B traffic in this area is restricted to one lane of travel. Questions re: repairs should be directed to NYS DOT.

The WCPD sends its deepest condolences to the NYPD and the family of slain Police Officer Didarul Islam who was shot and killed in the line of duty yesterday. PO Islam’s service and sacrifice will be forever honored and remembered.

The southbound Hutchinson River Parkway is closed at North Street in Harrison due to an overturned vehicle. Motorists should seek an alternate route for the next hour.
