Stating the obvious, but not having a functional scoreboard at a track and field meet, let alone a championship event, is just irritating.

Brentwood senior Lauren Banovac wins the 1,600 Class AAA state championship in … to be added (the website time and scoreboard aren’t working for anything quick here) Centennial senior Larkin Johnson is runner-up in (yep, super helpful).

Those times —> Lauren Banovac of Brentwood - 4:44.92 for a state meet record. Asher Oates of Independence - 4:13.98. WillCo sweeps the Class AAA 1,600.

The Brentwood boys cruise in the 4X400 … “We run this,” says anchor Cameron High. The Bruins close in a new state record —> 40.79 seconds.

Lia Banovac wins the 800 meter Class AAA state championship for Brentwood. The senior closes in 2:11.78. Nothing but smiles and hugs with sister Lauren postrace. Franklin’s Sienna Thompson is runner-up in 2:12.70.

Darren Ogbonlowo with another title for Brentwood, this time he takes the 200 in 21.47 with teammate Liam Ching in third in 21.81. Both were part of that state record 4X100 earlier.

The 4X400 on deck. Brentwood twin sisters and decorated senior leaders Lauren and Lia Banovac will race one more time together for the Bruins here at state. They’ve been a pleasure to follow over the years. I’m looking forward to watching them at the next level, too.
