@weby4 @OfSelina Saints fan here and its shite what has happened for all parties. Ironically of the 3 games we spied on we drew 2 and lost 1! Hoonestly though getting Milwal and Boro to play each other and progress to play Hull made more sense to me and was fairest for those team.

If you are a true football fan and not these plastic ones who flood socials for engagement then unless there is undeniable evidence a team has manipulated the result of a match the result should still stand If you lost a semi final you don’t get to play in a final

@OfSelina Yea, it’s all a bit of ‘the unknown’, as to how much of a difference ‘the knowledge’ made, but I think the only feasible punishment has to be forfeiture of the game(s), which then puts Boro thru 😬

@weby4 But it wasn’t - there is not a single piece of tangible evidence that can link the spying with the outcome of a match played over two legs I am not saying Southampton should not be punished but Boro don’t deserve to be in the final

@OfSelina It’s the ‘richest’ game in football based on the pot of gold for winning the final; they just went that bit too far (maybe cos they got away with it during the season)…& got caught

@OfSelina So why bother if no advantage? Typically, if teams play ineligible player, they forfeit the match…in this instance, the insider knowledge is effectively the ineligible player. It could’ve been their new set piece routines that were nullified as a result, stopping Boro scoring

@OfSelina They used the knowledge that was gained ‘illegally’, of how the opposition would play. I don’t like it because ultimately it’s how the players perform on the pitch that should count, but the rules are there & they (on 3 occasions it would seem) chose to break them by spying 🤷‍♂️

@6thiagoat I'm not saying that what Martinelli did was right, at all, and should have been punished for this, but his reaction came from Bradley sliding himself back on the pitch. That caused the frustration! And obviously! Wishing him a speedy recovery 🙏

Doesn’t change fact that ball cannot go in off hand/arm, even if accidental!
