@ryankatzrosene Sure, but two of those Canadian spikes dwarf any of the others, and both are within the last 5 years.

"Canadians need to manage their forests better for wildfire" Since 1983, there have been 27 years where the US saw a greater share of its total land area burn from wildfires than Canada, and 17 years where Canada had a greater share burn than the US. #STFU

@CarterG630030G @annemargaretj Right. That's why Alaska burns down every Summer. Because it's small, has tons of population, and no trees. GTFO. Your excuses are bullshit. AK doesn't burn. We manage it. Also, why is this a new problem that just started in the past 3 years? Not the 100s of years prior.

The lack of humanity coming from Americans regarding the wildfires here in Ontario is disappointing but sadly not shocking. When it happens to them, we send water planes & our own firefighters. When it happens to our land & our people, they sneer & turn their backs. #neighbours

@s4rah_dev Funny how your map of the forest cuts off at the Alaska border. Why is it that Alaska has the exact same forests as northern Canada... yet doesn't have these wildfire problems? Why these Canadian fires have only been this bad the past 3 year... not the hundreds of years prior.

Just a friendly reminder that Canada’s boreal forest is 1.2 billion acres. 25% of all intact forests left on planet earth are in this one country, making up 60% of our land mass. This forest is 10 times the size of the entire state of California. It will all burn someday. This is life.

@DEMOCRACYDENNIS Funny how those fires magically don't cross the Alaska/Canadian border line. As if Alaska knows that they're doing....

@bataille_chris Bullshit. Canada refuses to manage their forests properly. Why is it that we have zero fires in Alaska, but dozens of fires just across the country border, hmm?

Up until ~10 years ago, most boreal forest lightening strikes and human ignitions fell on damp ground, often damp from recent snow melt. Climate change has transformed this, turning the northern half of North America into a giant tinder box, where even the soil carbon can burn.
Prof. Ryan Katz-Rosene@ryankatzrosene

For those wondering why it's so hard to control remote wildfires in Canada, here are two maps which might help illustrate the problem. Let's call them: A) Where the people are; and B) Where the trees are.

@WadeLeonard12 Well, if you can't manage your forest, we might have to take you over as our 51st State and show you how to. Why is it there's no fires in Alaska... but dozens just on the other side of the AK-Canada border? Strange isn't it? Same forest, same climate...

I’m hearing this all over X now from American posters, saying Canada needs to control it’s wildfire smoke. The United States is a major contributor to global emissions, but before I take that argument on, ponder, the following

FINAL WARNING TO CANADA: Manage your forests to prevent these fires. American lungs are paying the price for Canadian inaction, year after year. Sovereignty comes with responsibility, and the responsibility to prevent a foreseeable disaster from crossing into another country’s airspace has not been met.

@EnanoPancracio @bradleyjbayer @yedoye_ "can stretch, move around and jump to extend their area of coverage." Hockey Goalies stretch and move around to extend their area of coverage. On rare occasions they even jump.

@weened @bradleyjbayer @yedoye_ I didn't say they can't move around, I said goalies can move around more within their goal because they don't wear pads.

@weened @bradleyjbayer @yedoye_ Did you forget we're talking about why the soccer goal being so big isn't as impactful as people think since soccer goalies can move in ways hockey goalies can't?

@bradleyjbayer @yedoye_ Sure but soccer goalies aren't dressed like they're doing bomb disposal in Iraq and can stretch, move around and jump to extend their area of coverage.

The 10 dollars a day childcare has created one of the largest fraud environments in modern Canadian history. I've been doing some deep dives into providers in the Edmonton area and the findings will shock you. You are being scammed Canada. Audit every single one of these providers. Arrests need to be made

Brett Howden on Mitch Marner’s first year with the Vegas Golden Knights: "He's been awesome. Right from the first time meeting him, you could just tell how genuine of a person he is, both him and his wife. They're incredible people. And then obviously you get to see, I mean, coming in you know the hockey side of how good he is. And then you get to see it firsthand and it's like, holy smokes. It's even another level getting to see it daily, every day in practice, and then getting the chance to play with him too. It's been truly remarkable to see that and just to see how much better he's gotten throughout the year. And then he's playing a position that he's never played before. He's playing center pretty much most of the year and how smooth he made that look. It's been awesome. And then in the locker room, it's great. Right away, it seemed like we made him feel comfortable. And seems like from the start he was just himself, which is great. Yeah, can't say enough good things about him." #VegasBorn #ForgedInGold #StanleyCup
