During my NYSC, my roommate introduced me to something I had never heard of before, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE). She encouraged me to join a training, and we both enrolled together. At that time, I didn’t know that simple decision would later change my life. After NYSC ended, the job hunt began. While discussing my plans with a family friend, I mentioned the HSE training I had completed. He advised me to take it further by registering with the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, explaining that it was the recognized professional body in the country. My dad supported me financially, and I went ahead to get properly certified. Then came the real struggle searching for a job. One day, that same family friend called to inform me about an opportunity in a construction company in Ibadan. It was only an internship role and came with no salary. I spoke with the manager myself, and he confirmed there would be no payment. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I knew I needed experience, so I accepted. With the support of my siblings, I relocated to Ibadan and stayed with a relative. They helped with my transport fares because where I lived was very far from the project site. Every day was stressful and exhausting, but I kept showing up, learning, and enduring the process. After two months, while scrolling through one of the HSE WhatsApp groups I belonged to, I saw a job advert. I immediately contacted the person who posted it and went through an interview. Later, he told me I performed better than other candidates he had interviewed. After speaking with the company’s Managing Director, I was offered the job with good salary, free accommodation, and free transportation. I was asked to resume that same month. When I informed my internship boss, he smiled and said something I will never forget: Those two months that looked like suffering were actually preparing the way for you. And that was how I moved on to a better opportunity. Interestingly, the very week I resumed my new job was when the lockdown started. That job became an answered prayer, solving many financial challenges in my life and family at the time. I often reflect on how one conversation, one step of faith, and a season of sacrifice completely changed my story. I'm forever grateful to my NYSC roommate. Sometimes the opportunity that looks small, unpaid, or uncomfortable is the bridge to the life you prayed for. Keep learning, keep showing up, and don’t despise humble beginnings.

I think more married couples need to speak honestly about this whole 50/50 marriage conversation, because a lot of the unrealistic expectations people carry into marriage today are quietly setting many unions up for failure. The truth is, there is really no such thing as a rigid 50/50 marriage in real life.
Marriage is not mathematics. It is not always balanced neatly . Sometimes it is 100/100, sometimes 80/20, sometimes one person carries more than the other for a season. What matters is not the exact ratio, but the willingness of both people to show up fully for the success of the union. For marriage to become what it was truly designed to be, both parties must be intentional, responsible, and willing to bring their best selves into it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with supporting your spouse financially, domestically, emotionally, or mentally, regardless of gender. That is the whole point of partnership. You are not enemies. You are not competitors. You are meant to be on the same side. That said, another truth many people may not like to hear is that in most successful marriages, the woman often ends up giving more. Not necessarily because she is lesser, weaker, or meant to be exploited, but because consequences of actions and inactions are not the same for Man and Woman, especially in this our part of the world, and sadly, we can’t “woke” ourselves out of our realities. Biology, society, childbearing, emotional labor, and even reputation tend to place different weights on both genders, whether people like it or not. The earlier people understand that marriage may not always demand the same things from both people at the same time, the better prepared they will be for real life. Where it all becomes dangerous is when both people enter marriage already carrying fixed selfish ideologies. A man who is already determined to split bills with his wife no matter the circumstance, and a woman who is already determined never to contribute to the financial or practical stability of the home no matter the situation, are both already entering the union with the wrong mindset. That is not partnership.
That is two people preparing to protect themselves from each other instead of preparing to build together. And that is one of the fastest recipes for a disastrous union. A healthy marriage is not built on; “What is the least I can do?” “How do I avoid being used?” “How do I make sure I don’t give more than you?” It is built on; “What does this home need from me, and am I willing to give it?” That is what sustains a marriage. Not social media unrealistic standards.

Being busy is not the same as growing I’ve seen this pattern too many times. Young people doing everything. Joining everything. Holding multiple roles. Attending every program. From the outside, it looks impressive. People say, “Wow, you’re really doing well.” But inside? Nothing is really changing. No deep skills. No real confidence. No clarity. No fulfillment. Just activities… and more activities. I’ve been there myself. There was a season when I was extremely busy My calendar was full. My name was everywhere. But something felt off. I had accolades. But no inner growth. I was giving out a lot… without taking in anything meaningful. And that’s draining. That’s when I realized something important. (Continue in my comment 👇)

You don't need to wait until you are an executive or a millionaire to start making an impact. Start where you are, with what you have. Mentor someone a year behind you. Share the resource you just found. The best leaders build the table while they are still looking for a seat.

@wenduly09 It's a very devastating situation. I've heard of a situation where a patient was treated wrongly because they don't know his health history during an emergency

Sometime last year...i raised a point in supporting the abolishing of iri-ekpe (taking your brother's properties when he die without having a son) in my umunna (kindred)...It didn't scale through....I had to wait for elections of umunna to come...I contested for chairman and lost with 3 votes....then i was made the vice chairman unopposed....The opportunity to put an end to that taking over of a man's properties because he didn't have a son now lies in my own hand.... February 8th 2026 being umunna meeting... chairman travelled to China for business meetings and handed full authority to me to be proceeding on affairs of the meeting...I did what I have to do....I used just one meeting to put an end to that trash.....The only way you can inherit your brother's properties in my umunna currently is if he died without having a child at all and the wife die after and leaving no one else that's when you can now enter..... We will keep rising!!!!

All your brother’s properties belong to his wife and kids. Not you as a sibling.

In furtherance of our commemoration of the 2026 International Women’s Day in Aguata LGA, my Team and I spent the entire day with the women doing businesses in Orie Market, Uga. We provided free medical care for the market women - affording us a golden opportunity to run tests, provide drugs, engage in counselling, etc. We equally supported the businesses of 50 petty traders with cash support of ₦50,000 each. The joy caused by our intervention can be best described as mind-blowing. Our women are golden, and we are intentional with the #AGreaterAguata agenda on supporting women. May our Mothers live to benefit from their years of building homes and maintaining societal values. For us in Aguata LGA, Impossibility is Nothing.
