@slayercomma yeah! my problem is with people acting like liking one is problematic but liking the other one is not, you can like a character that isn’t a good person and it doesn't make you problematic

@weslieism have to say though I think on all sides this conversation is inane like. sometimes people like certain characters and dislike others. I’m not usually determining that based on morality. people can hate a character i love and vice versa

wesley is protrayed in ats as an antihero, not entirely a good guy, they compared him with judas and he literally ends up in hell but anyway

@candescentfiend exactly!! but even then i don't think the show protrayed wesley/fred dynamic as the best option entirely, like with the illyria thing later on, it was seen as him having an unhealthy attachment to her

@weslieism the only thing the show lets him "get away with" for lack of better term, is how they handled the who love triangle between him, gun, and fred.

@candescentfiend exactly!! me personally i don't ship wesley with fred because of this even if i like wesley but i do think he's a complex character worth analizing and not just a nice guy and i think the show was aware of his flaws

@weslieism plus this idea of the women choosing passion and freedom and thus having more agency than simply being with the guy who "deserves" her. and it's like well both tropes are bad I guess it comes down to what personally makes you more uncomfortable

@candescentfiend also i feel like wesley's issues are harder to justify because he's not a vampire, he's a human and also because they're less romantizable (but in my opinion more realistic)
