My thoughts on Ye SoFi Night 1
Just calling it an “incredible production” would be a disservice. The visuals were out of this world and absolute eye candy. It was incredibly hard to see him from the floor but seats on Friday should help me appreciate it more. But the visual of him standing on top of the earth and the horizontal lighting to have clouds above his head was fucking genius. Blew me away
The setlist certainly left more to be desired. ZERO LR, JIK, YE, V2, or Donda 2 certainly hurt for me. Alongside the loud absence of stronger, flashing lights, and homecoming. As much of a fan of niche shit that I am, you need those. I think the setlist could’ve been way better if we saw atleast 1 “deepish” (or just barely performs) cut from each album. For 808’s say you will is this, and it is my favorite every show. You can throw in like 5-6 of these without clogging the setlist
TCD: Two Words
LR: Diamonds
GRAD: Champion
808’s: Paranoid/Love Lockdown/Coldest winter
MBDTF: DIAND
YEEZUS: I Am A God
TLOP: Highlights/Waves
Ye: Yikes
JIK: Literally any
Donda: 24
Also, I would really appreciate if he played more alt prods or even just one leak a show. Like how easy is it to just turn on Run It Up, To The Roof, or anything with that energy. Just intro it on the mic saying “this shit ain’t released but run it”. Just ONE of these a show would make the casuals curious and the diehards shocked and amazed.
Anyway, I think the ordering was slightly rough too, especially in the beginning just hopping between eras and moods really quickly, felt jarring. The pacing felt off.
Giant highlight is Andre Troutman. I never want to watch a Ye show without him forever and ever. Such a good addition to the live performances and he literally never misses a fucking beat.
Not a wild take or anything, but obviously it would be nice if Ye sang a bit more. I think this chalks up to not rehearsing enough. It is what it is. Just pointing out the obvious
Regardless, Ye has the most hits ever, so it’s really sometimes just the feat of him showing up as the man who made these records and playing them live. Most people are just happy with that, but I would love to see a little more effort on the mic.
Don Toliver was fucking great and I loved his energy, big plus to the show. North as well is always a great time at the show.
Honestly a lot of these things are just nitpicks because again at the end of the day, the production was incredible, he performed most of his hits and it was a spectacle. So what more can you ask for.
Overall a great show and it was incredible to witness
