There’s a Jazz vs Lakers game in 89 I think, there are 10 min where I get physically exhausted just watching, you see them shine on camera with all the sweat because Magic tried to increase the tempo and the Jazz instead of backing down, decided to push harder. It was beautiful, and they still were killing each other on defense, no easy shots or buckets.

I’ve now listened to half of this and I can say that my esteem for @normfinkelstein has dropped precipitously. 1) he asks incredulously and rhetorically whether anyone can possibly believe right wingers care about suffering and oppression, dismissively concluding they don’t and all ostensible concern for Palestine is really just about antisemitism. I know a number of right wingers, including @Villgecrazylady and @CurtMills reasonably well and I guarantee they are driven by Palestinian suffering more than concern for America first. They are also driven more by genuine concern than many left-wingers who simply use Palestine to virtue signal and are willing to destroy the pro Palestine movement from within in order to do so. 2) Finkelstein posits America first and concern for Palestinian suffering as antithetical values. Actually, the point I’ve heard many right wingers cogently make, including @TuckerCarlson and @RealCandaceO (who I disagree with on many other issues, btw) is that it is automatically detrimental to America to enable and ratify gross human rights violations. So the two are complementary. We can’t advance our values when we are actively destroying them in other parts of the world. 3) apparently, right wingers do not talk about the holocaust enough for Finkelstein’s satisfaction, which he believes evinces inherent antisemitism. Isn’t this the same guy who wrote the book of the Holocaust industry? Maybe it’s time to concentrate on the holocaust happening now, not the one that happened 80 years ago, with many others in between, by the way. And given how the Nazi holocaust has been weaponized to kill Palestinians and ironically commit a new Holocaust, I think it’s reasonable to determine we’ve discussed it enough and the right lessons haven’t been learned 4) Finkelstein warns about handing your enemies their arguments on a silver platter. He did just that in this podcast.

@what0kay @dudeonthebay @AnalyticsCapper Modern defense requires you to give a shooter landing space. Anybody that's ever played ball knows that giving a real shooter any space is like target practive for them. Offense has all the advantage today, regardless what you think the defense is doing.

I was born in 1984. 90s basketball is what I fell in love with. But even the biggest fan can’t watch this and say the game was better back then. The pace in your local gym today is faster than this. The scores from this series were 85-88, 93-88, 54-96, 82-86, 83-81, and 87-86.

@pj_schreiner 3 minutes of one game defines the entire era? I can pull up several 3 minute clips that will show you how today's NBA is nothing more than flopping, double-dribbling, traveling, crying to the refs, ZERO defense, and poor shot selection.

Basketball has changed so much. In some ways, this shows more of a team sport and the development of complex plays. In other ways, this reveals how much slower, less aggressive, and less athletic the game was. Boomers and millennials are going to hate to hear this, but the reality is the 2026 OKC and Spurs would dominate both these teams.

The difference is Kobe didnt jump sideways to get the contact, guys jumped into his real space. The shooter shouldn't avoid contact, but Shai is jumping sideways half the time. Theyre really not the same. Shai is trying to mimick what Jordan and Kobe mastered, but because hes not as good, hes gotta do it this way. He could have clean looks on a lot of these but every time he gets a guy up hes like I'm getting a foul. Thats not how MJ and Kobe moved. There are multiple clips of him initiating contact when the defenders already touching the ground in front of him. Not the same.
