My 2022 writing challenge, inspired by Ray Bradbury: a new short story, every week, for a whole year. Maybe one of them will even be good? f52.charlieharrington.com

My workflow has been to read the textbook then brainstorm a relevant miniproject with Gemini, distilled down to a 1-2 paragraph "programming challenge". Then I go think about it, do more research, and hand code the educational parts (using Claude Code for routine stuff)

@benjreinhart @get_mocha Really nice explainer. Do you expose the logs or observability to the user in any way? That seems to me an interesting area for a non technical customer audience who are shipping prod apps.

The past year has been a wild ride @get_mocha. We've built so much bad ass tech. I'm excited to finally share more about the engineering behind Mocha. Link below 👇

When is binge learning better than consistency? Some people seem to do better with highly structured study routines whereas others prefer compulsive deep dives. Or is it more about the topic than the person?

@PatMcWelch @_MathAcademy_ Helllooo!! MFI for me. We interviewed @justinskycak for @csprimer podcast and I’ve been hooked ever since. Honestly it’s become a relaxing EOD unwind for me and that’s my top reason for loving it. Getting out a pencil and spiral bound notebook and doing some homework. So nice.

Where my @_MathAcademy_ adult learners at? I'm in the back half of my 30s, a third of the way through MFII and trying to finish Mathematics for ML by July 1.

A 4000 day overnight success. I’ve seen my wife @cleoabram over the last 11 years devote herself to explaining the world and telling stories. Nights and weekends when we first graduated college writing a newsletter to explain the week’s most topical issues. Taking animating and editing classes at night at the School of Visual Arts while at Vox. Using her “vacation time” to take journalism classes at Columbia. When others played, she practiced. Working on Netflix Explained and YouTube’s Glad You Asked. I saw her work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 6 straight months doing Quibi’s daily show during Covid. Then I saw her take the leap, quit her job, and start HUGE IF TRUE. She had a clear vision from Day 1 ⁃What: Optimistic tech explainers. ⁃Why: Because when people see a better future, they help build it. ⁃How: Visually stunning, journalistically rigorous, with genuine childlike wonder. Today, she hit 5M subscribers. It’s just the beginning of what she and her incredible team will accomplish. Every day, I’m in awe of my wife’s curiosity, optimism, talent, work ethic, joy for learning, and ability to share that with others. The world needs people who inspire us to build a better world together. I can’t to see what she does next.

Had a great chat with @oznova_ and @whatrocks on the @csprimer show! Some things we covered in the 1hr podcast (link in comments): -- @_MathAcademy_ was originally built to support a school program. How come it also works so well for adults? -- What makes someone a student a good fit for Math Academy? What's required to succeed? -- The idea of calibrating to student interest/motivation profiles in the future, just like we currently calibrate to student knowledge profiles

Some software engineers become dramatically more capable than others, over time. There are many factors, but much of it comes down to a few simple practices that anyone can adopt:
