The 14-Year-Old Who Developed a Groundbreaking Surgical Technique for Hysterectomy Procedures
From teenage prodigy to U.S. Army captain, Tony Hansberry II has followed a remarkable path in medicine.
At just 14, during a summer internship at the University of Florida, he developed a new vertical suturing method for hysterectomy procedures, later referred to as the “Hansberry Stitch.”
By using an endo stitch device in an unconventional way, his technique proved to be significantly faster reportedly up to three times quicker than traditional horizontal stitching while also helping to simplify the procedure and reduce potential complications for patients.
