Angel Reese had a tough opening week, despite still averaging a double-double: (10.7) points, (12.7) rebounds, (2.3) assists, and (1.7) blocks per game. The struggles have mainly come with efficiency and turnovers. Reese is shooting 33.3% from the floor while averaging (5.3) turnovers per game. So how does the league’s most scrutinized players put that behind her as the season continues? A major part of the turnover issue has been offensive fouls. Reese has picked up multiple offensive fouls in each game, which is notable because that has not typically been a major issue in her game. If she cleans that up alone, her turnover numbers should naturally come down, considering roughly 40% of her turnovers have come from offensive fouls. Offensively, the margin between a rough stat line and an efficient one has actually been thinner than it looks. In today’s game alone, Reese missed three makeable shots that would have pushed her to 15 points on 50% shooting. Against Minnesota, she had four makeable misses that could have resulted in a 19-point performance on 8-for-11 shooting. That’s important because we’ve already seen Reese play efficient basketball. Over the final 20 games of last season, she showed she can score effectively when operating in the right spots, and realistically, that’s where most of her offense should continue to come from. Those are controllable areas the two-time All-Star should be able to correct moving forward. Defensively, Reese has held her own, which has been one of the biggest positives. She has recorded five total blocks through her first three games and continues to make an impact on that end. Will adjustments stop the constant scrutiny, or lowlights? No. That level of attention was set in stone the moment Reese waved and taunted in a player’s face—a player many of her loudest critics didn’t even know about in the first place. But improving the controllable aspects of her game will absolutely benefit both Reese and the team as they continue to navigate the season. 🪄

People keep saying her trainer needs to be fired. Fam. She’s just not coachable. She’s 24 years old in her 3 year of her professional career and cannot shoot LAYUPS. Do you really think no coach or trainer has TRIED to fix this? This is truly the most fundamental shit in the sport of basketball. Lisa Leslie herself sat directly across from Angel and told her she wanted to work with her on how she shoots her layups. She then did, in fact, spend a lot of time with her in the gym working on various aspects of her game. Including layups. And Angel changed fuckall. In fact, it’s possible she’s worse. So it’s not trainers.

This was Angel Reese boasting about herself...right before putting together one of the worst performances of the season. You know how difficult it is to shoot 12% from the field? To make matters worse...Angel Reese had nearly as many turnovers as points(again). The WNBA needs Angel Reese to be the villain. But in order for that to happen...Angel Reese has to be a legitimate threat. Right now...the only thing Angel Reese is threatening is her own team
