I really don’t wanna be that guy, but Ernie Clement has -1 DRS & -3 OAA with a .277 xwOBA on the season. He’s really gotta find his game here, because it’s starting to look quite bad so far.

@bobatyork @MarshaIIZach I wouldnt say backup. He is the player that gets in 3-4 games a week rotating spots to give guys rest. There is value there. Maybe not as an everyday player. That said, I'd give it more rope. Its early May. Lets revisit in June.

@DownToBlack Maybe I'm an old now. I feel of all those, 10% are easily errors without a doubt in my smooth brain. 30% are in a grey zone that I could see either way, but would lean most likely to error. The remaining 60% I would score hits.

In this instance, less than 0.5% of the ball has actually touched zone. It does't seem justifiable to reverse the umpire's call. The ABS system calculates inches & surface data. I think the rules should be adjusted, so that 25% of the ball must be in the zone for a strike.

This is rough for Max but I saw it coming. Even though his fastball was hitting 94 in his last start I was timing it from my couch and it was closer to 84 when it actually reached the batter box. You could clearly see something was wrong

Question for all my new age baseball students out there …… How in 2025 did Nico Hoerner finish 2nd in batting average but 23rd in OBP in the national league? If not drawing walks is your answer please provide his whiff% and provide his contact percentage on swings he made in 2025 and where it ranks amongst NL hitters. @StevenCheah I hate what you’ve done to me but it’s never been more clear the students need their teacher

@JohnnyGiunta_ Its easy to quantify value for walk vs single. Can a runner score from 2nd when the batter walks? Can they score from 2nd if the batter singles? Both are not equal.

@JohnnyGiunta_ I read the ball the same as him. I thought it would bounce. It stopped dead. Way she goes. All that soft contact and run scored is bad luck. No point focusing on a single play when the offense cant put up more than 1.
