Marco Rubio might be the most impressive politician of my lifetime. I have genuinely never liked anyone in active politics anywhere in the world like him. Maybe 2008 Obama?

All those who say Netanyahu is such a problem that it made you turn on Israel, especially Jews who say that, need to honestly answer one question: what concrete policies and actions has Netanyahu pursued thus far that so offend you that you are hurting israel as a nation. And then ask yourself the follow-on: of those policies that so offend you, which do not reflect the national consensus? Gaza/Rafah? Reaching a deal that returned every last hostage? The beepers? Killing Nasrallah? Hitting Houthis hard to keep Bab Al-Mandab open? Taking out Iran in June 2025 and March 2026? Creating a military fusion between the IDF and CENTCOM closer than any other nation on earth has with the U.S.? Opposing Palestinian statehood (which more than 90/120 parliamentarians voted to prevent)? The fact that the only non-Netanyahu government in the last 17 years built settlements in Judea and Samaria at a rate faster than any Netanyahu government had? The fact that he wages a seven front war when every front of that war Israel currently fights is only a reaction to an attack launched against Israel and initiated by the other side? What exactly is so egregious and beyond Israel’s national consensus that you would vote to deny Israel Iron Dome funding to defend civilians from missiles? So egregious that you would be willing to punish and hurt the whole state of Israel? You can oppose Netanyahu and pray three times a day that he be voted out. About half of Israel does too. I get that there are Jews and others who are frustrated with the performance of Israel’s government and want change. Many even harbor that frustration out of genuine love for Israel. But to argue that you turned against Israel itself as a nation because just you oppose Netanyahu means you are hiding behind the fiction of Netanyahu and the deliberately dishonest formulation of “Netanyahu’s war.” All those policies and actions above are matters of national consensus. Israelis in super-majorities support those policies. To blame them on Netanyahu and cite “his war” or any of those other policies as the reason for turning on Israel is just dishonest.
David Gerstman@soccerdhg

From a year ago. It's odd. How many of these Democrats would meet with Netanyahu now? The war in Gaza has been on the back burner for six months now. And yet Netanyahu is apparently less popular with Democrats now than he was 12 months ago.

People put so much faith in polls in israel months before an election when the party lists aren’t even finalized and campaigning hasn’t yet begun. Israel, moreover, notoriously polls left and votes right. I suggest non-Israelis sit back and just enjoy the show. And listen not to whomever says what you want to hear, but pollsters and analysts who have had a long track record of getting it right. And there are not many.
Ghanem Nuseibeh@gnuseibeh

There will be no majority government in Israel without a coalition with the Palestinian citizens of Israel (aka Arab parties). Otherwise a succession of Israeli governments and elections & perpetual political instability. The numbers may change but the trajectory is clear

I was in the tail end of this, but I remember. Sno-cones were a big thing. Custard were big, but so were coke and root beer. We would go downtown to corner stores to get what in the more northern neighborhoods you just couldn’t get. I remember, for example going downtown to Schaefer’s near Lexington market to get Swiss cheese. Back then, it was the only place that carried Gruyère. And all the while there hung in a large radius from the waterfront a distinct smell of smoked spices from the McCormick spice factory. All the ethnic neighborhoods were authentic and amazing.

@whit58612 @mtracey Most people I talk to say they hate both sides but feel forced into the false binary of the two party system. I agree with you that the hyperpartisans deserve ridicule, but most people just pick what they think is the lesser of two evils and I disagree but don't fault them

@who_exactly_ @mtracey But dose the average person have any accountability? If you think we should be run “of by and for the people” or some variation there of, and the people keep electing these clowns, when do you blame the people? It’s not like Trump didn’t tease this.

Trump instituted a policy of escalatory regime change bellicosity toward Iran in his first term, and pledged to ramp it up in his second, including with explicit threats of aggressive military force. If you took that to be an "anti-war" message, that was your own delusion

@whit58612 @mtracey They're more informed on international issues by nature of living in a tight cluster of many countries. + we only interact with the educated ones. I think EU's also a propagandized population, in diff ways. I'll always blame the rich/powerful before directing ire at average ppl

@who_exactly_ @mtracey I agree with that I’m just asking when accountability for the people starts, you seemingly agreed with my point that the European populations are better informed than us, and they probably have less access to information, so when can we blame the populace?

@whit58612 @mtracey Yes, there are plenty of podcasts which would have you vastly better informed than the MSM does. But there are also some very dumb podcasts. The reason people have to seek independent creators is due to the abject failure of the MSM to be honest and trustworthy for many years

@who_exactly_ @mtracey At some point you have to blame the people, even with big money corruption we still have a constitutional Republic, with representation. If people had even European levels of knowledge of issues Nither Harris or Trump would have run.

Of course Tucker brought on that Professor Jiang nutjob. And of course in his telling, Trump's personal agency plays no meaningful role in the Iran war. He's either "an actor," manipulated by "eschatologists," on a messianic mission from God, "forced" by Israel, or blackmailed
