The pattern over the next week will offer up several pesky rain chances across the OH Valley and Midwest with heavier rain and storms across the southeast tier of the US. Will be a challenge to see multiple days of dry time with this pattern for outdoor work. This can be attributed to a strong upper-level low (trough) and cold air setting up across the Hudson Bay and Great Lakes.

I hope y'all didn't get used to the historic warmth we had in April! This is because we are in for a chilly May this year. Chances are high for below average temperatures persisting the majority of May with frost risks leading right into Mothers Day for Central Indiana. #INwx

Leaning heavily on the chill to open May this year with frost risks likely for Central Indiana. The latest CPC is also in agreement with below average temps through at least Mid-May. #INwx

To no surprise we see data trending colder late month into Early May. I have had this idea for weeks now. This increases my confidence for additional frost/freeze risks into May this year. May frosts do not happen every year, but they do occur. The last May freeze I can recall was in 2020. A stretch of well below average temperatures are likely. Expect data to continue trending colder the closer we get. The MJO rolling into the null zone by early May will allow the NAO to dominate. It signals chilly air to bleed eastwrard. Until this next cool down expect temperatures to rebound to above average for some time. Enjoy it, friends!

Warm and wet start to April on Tap. Indiana Mud Season 🐷 There are indications for cooler weather Mid-late April, but we aren't looking at anything overly cold at this distance. I would still keep a watch for freeze risks by Mid-month, but data is not in agreement.

Unfortunately the deep freeze coming early next week will fry these Magnolia stellata flowers and other landscaped Oriental Magnolias. The cold won't harm the tree, it just cuts the blooms short before peak 😢
