There is increasing concern around MAT governance, transparency and accountability. MATs need to realise education funding is there to fund children’s education. @IWNEU

If funding, staffing, and legal protections were robust enough, serious SEND progress could materialise in practice. However, we can’t deliver a more inclusive mainstream system without staff numbers with wide expertise and even wider support to run it. @IWNEU

The White paper promises special needs much, but it’s difficult to see how it will fully deliver in reality. Children whose needs go unmet today do not get them back in the future. @IWNEU

SEND inclusion – a bold new vision where government appears to be asking schools to do more for less. @IWNEU

In 2023 the DfE promised ‘Prioritising’ a new 75 pupil special school on the Island for September 2025. The money was there, but still no school. Will the latest SEND funding promise produce much-needed dedicated Island special schools? onthewight.com/isle-of-wight-… @IWNEU

Island members regularly report their organisation’s work culture has a negative effect on their wellbeing. Nationally, teachers (51 per cent) and senior leaders (45 per cent) reported the same. onthewight.com/education-supp… @IWNEU

The phrase 'for all' appears 56 times in this week's curriculum and assessment review. Yet, a July Island Schools Forum paper shows 30/38 schools will spend more than they receive in 2025/26. Will Government act to unleash opportunities for all? @IWNEU

Island schools have hit rock bottom. 11/38 maintained schools were in deficit last school year. According to a July Schools Forum paper 30/38 schools will be in deficit in this school year 2025/26. This cannot continue. @SchoolCuts @IWNEU

A rugby referee once said: ‘Failure comes when you don’t listen. You can’t put something out there and assume it’s great.’ The head of Ofsted was supposed to listen and reduce Ofsted pressure. He has surely failed. onthewight.com/ofsted-inspect… @IWNEU

‘Government to crackdown on bad behaviour and boost attendance’ – yesterday’s DfE press and education secretary’s news interview felt underwhelming. Students are more than just a national statistic. onthewight.com/letter-governm… @IWNEU

Man’s inhumanity to man. History shows us, expecting international democracy to work or protesting against what powerful countries, business and leaders want is unlikely to make progress. But it shouldn't stop humanity from protesting. onthewight.com/letter-starvat… @IWNEU
