John and Jordi react to rumors that Block's recent layoff included 70% of engineers at the company. John: I am still bloatpilled. I still believe that these layoffs are mostly bloat-driven. Jordi: We’ve called this out so many times over the last year, as companies have done rounds of layoffs and said it was because of AI-related efficiency. It is often a good excuse. It's better than saying, 'We don’t know what we’re doing, and we’ve been running with 4,000 too many people for a while now.' John: It does feel like this could have some sort of contagion effect. A lot of other CEOs are looking at this and saying, 'I am a theoretical victim of the SaaSpocalypse. I need to do something.' So we could see more layoffs from tech firms.
