She said they'd been keeping it a secret and that she wasn't allowed to know all the details, just that they were leaving tomorrow. Something felt off about it, but I wasn't going to say no with how happy she was, so I just asked how long she'd be gone. She said they weren't telling her anything else, that it was all part of the surprise. I thought that was strange, but I didn't say anything. She left the next morning, and I still couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. A few hours after she left, I called her best friend to see how long they'd be gone. I wasn't expecting anything weird.. just wanted to check in.

In just one month, Arkansans learned that communities will lose hospital care in three rural-serving areas. Jacksonville is losing its hospital and ER. Fort Smith is cutting services. Camden's hospital filed for bankruptcy. When hospitals close, people lose care. They have to drive farther when minutes can mean life or death. Or they have to drive farther, and have you seen gas prices today? Doctors, nurses, and specialists lose their jobs, and they may leave the community. They take their families with them. Communities lose population and get weaker. This is the rural crisis. This is what Tom Cotton refuses to even talk about, much less do anything about. We CAN make change. We can support our rural hospitals, bring doctors and nurses to rural towns, get insurance for members of our rural communities, and invest in the economic development of these towns that mean so much to Arkansas's way of life. We NEED leaders willing to fight for Arkansas. I am here for that fight.
