When has the USA bombing a country with conventional ordnance ever liberated it without being followed up by a full scale invasion? Does anyone seriously believe that Trump is trying to liberate Venezuela by dropping bombs and then leaving their airspace? It's about oil, he wants to force the Venezuelan government to give the US control of their oil industry. If the USA wanted to enact a regime in Venezuela without a ground invasion, then they'd do it the way they've always done it, arming and training insurgents in the country to carry out a Coup. And if they actually cared, they'd fund, supply, train, and coordinate for a full scale revolution.

Every right thinking nation should severe ties with the US immediately. These are the actions of a despot. Actions that can never be justified. Solidarity with Maduro and his wife and those who seek to defend Venezuela against imperial aggression and theft.

One of the stranger Citywest streams last night were 2 British lads who admitted they flew over especially from London just to be there. They got repeatedly pepper sprayed as they also gave live updates on an arsenal match and pondered where the nearest McDonalds was.

A very reliable source in the FF parliamentary party tells me that "wavering" Fianna Fáil TDs, including him, have all received calls from the Taoiseach in recent days making it clear that the consequences for nominating any candidate not called Jim Gavin would be "severe".
