Discovered the magic of surgical care on rotations. Now on a quest to find my role in the Theater and imagine a justice-based, trauma-informed, healing-centered practice for the career. Looking to learn, grow, and connect.

Representation and institutional support is critical. Just 2 years ago, I never imagined I'd find family and support in the field of surgery. Now, I can't imagine it without them. @OutSurgeons

Looking for a speaker for an EM focused lecture series on trauma informed care of gender diverse survivors of sexual assault. My DMs are open. This is a very sensitive and important topic and would love help creating a meaningful conversation.

What does it really mean to be trauma-informed when we do design? Rest, pace and self-compassion are essential in doing this work. Social work and design have so much to learn from each other. - @rdietkus #DDFV3

@somustakeem @repair_project Trying to learn how to walk that question! I will stay in touch! Wish I had had the opportunity to take your course when I was younger. reading @haw95's Medical Apartheid convinced me to apply to med school. Adding several books to my list from your syllabus!

@willow_learns @repair_project Thank you soooo much for seeing value to be there tonight! "Trauma informed" AND "community engagement" are the buzz words among many others, but what does it mean to who in the medical world, and most especially with Blackness and trauma at the center! --- Do stay in touch!

"Trauma-informed" definitely has buzzword status. Really appreciated @somustakeem enumerating the diversity of experience that could be ascribed to the term and challenging me/us to think critically about how it is employed and who is included during @repair_project panel

@ZivTali @rocketgirlmd thanks for the connect @ZivTali. what an honor. can't express how critical it is to be reading Dr. Paul Kalanithi's wisdom in this moment that I am pivoting to surgery. His vulnerable philosophy of life/death resonates with a deep cord

I know I’m very late to this, but even Paul Kalanithi thought the loss of family was too high a price to pay for a career in medicine. On the edge of my seat for what changed his mind and if he found a better balance before the end.

Or was this a reason you decided not to go into surgery?

Especially if that decision was made a significant time into the relationship

First question...what resources are out there for partners of doctors/surgeons?

In other words...how did others talk to their partner(s) about the decision to go into surgery and what that will mean for the relationship? B/c it seems like it will affect them as much as me
