@barrieauthor You are absolutely correct. Variation in intensity, even at the same time in consecutive days is far from insignificant. In the context of virtual displacements, the daily variation can be higher than intensity differences reported to drastically influence orientation angle...

@willtschneider This is an interesting and important debate. The high level of temporal variability in geomagnetic intensity surely also needs to be taken into account - or have I missed something?
