I was originally struck by web3 due to the vision of finance for all. The idea that anybody around the world could access equal opportunity But ultimately it was the distributed architecture of the underlying technology of blockchain that has kept me enthralled Thread 🧵 (1)

every time i've met a successful person or interacted with them for even as little as 4 hours, i'm reminded that it isn't luck. it's never luck. it's always not luck

i generally hate bull markets. its just a bunch of stomach churning anxiety that people aren't shipping fast enough and that somehow the most important thing doesn't have enough focus

I vibe coded a market simulation: Perp. contract engine (Orderbook+Matching, Eventsystem+StateAggregator), key order types (Market, Limit, Stop, Reduce), liquidation engine, order fees, autonomous participants (MM, Whale etc.), and a UI dashboard. Every run is different! 22k LOC

i think rap videos would go harder with rapper solo rather than with their posse. having friends means your life isn't hard enough

This is why I accelerate.
mert@mert

have heard from several people disillusioned with the state of crypto I've never once felt like this in my time in crypto, so maybe it's useful to spill my POV on why crypto is important goes something like this: the ability for humans to coordinate is roughly the most important and interesting problem on earth all that is created or accomplished by us is downstream of this — food, technology, services, science, etc; none of it works without human coordination so how do humans coordinate? well, there have been many structures throughout history, mostly different forms of government but fundamentally they all have to do with using resources to achieve some goal — those resources are knowledge, human capital, and capital itself it is undeniable that the most effective mechanism at coordinating these so far has been capitalism crypto is important because it evolves capitalism just like how the internet is the natural rails for information, crypto is the natural rails for capitalism unstoppable free markets, frictionless capital flows, alignment of incentives between different untrusted parties, property rights and their enforcement, competition, fairer market structure, low barriers to entry for businesses, composability of different financial instruments (payments, RWAs, equities, etc) if you can accelerate capitalism, you can accelerate all progress — everywhere with that framing, it's hard to get disillusioned with what we're doing

@DaveShapi This might be the average. Now play the thought experiment for the <3% of degens who actually push the envelope on any technological revolution. They do not move at the pace of average.

Here's my current working Post-Labor Economics timeline: 2026-27: this is when AI becomes unignorable in all Fortune 500 companies. Adoption will be slower than you think because they are risk averse. 2028: This is when humanoid robots will probably hit product/market fit for the first time (so about 3 years behind chatbots, and a year or two behind agents) 2029-31: this is when AI becomes the next big thing in business. Like how cloud was taking off about ten years ago. During this time, robot production starts ramping. Knowledge work starts going the way of the dinosaurs. The writing is on the wall. 2033-35: this is when we're starting to see huge layoffs across many domains and it becomes a major political issue. AI and robots are now the defacto business policy, and it's just a matter of time before they reach saturation. 2038-40: by now, it's mostly said and done. Robot production will be in full swing, companies will have stopped hiring humans, and we'll either be in a Post-Labor paradigm or cyberpunk dystopia.

@DaveShapi Bro literally just post what you find interesting, the right people will follow. The only thing more fickle than digital markets are the algorithms that drive them.

No one is fully taking into long term account the multiple disruptive transformative technologies that are converging. AI, robotics, biotech, quantum just for starters.
