@stephenmedlock There was an Atlas 747 in yesterday so perhaps that. They are doing almost daily shifts into Fairford at the moment

@window_planes Pity about that! What is the big plane at Fairford, with the orange emblem on its tail, parked up near the B1's today? Could not get near it. Is it cargo or refuelling?

Huge shame for local businesses and those regulars to RIAT

@daveyvermaak I hear there was hope right up to yesterday. Base preparations ordinarily would have started in the next week and the USAF just can’t guarantee it. Some have seen this as an indication of USAF future action but I think more a cut off for logistic planning/prevent losing money

@window_planes Such a lot. Many businesses, staff, hotels, vendors. I'm sad, sure, but everybody must have seen this coming. They knew this a few weeks ago really. Imagine the loss the butchers, take-away's etc in Fairford alone will lose in income. I blame Marmalade President.

@window_planes Yeah, I guess. I expect a lot of pubs & smaller hotels in the area kind of depend on the influx of money during RIAT week to balance the books to some degree

@Deputy_1984 From what I’ve been told there was a lot of hope even until this week but clearly a stalling on progress of the infamous “deal” scuppered it. RIAT logistics start 8 weeks out so hit the point of decision.

@window_planes It is a shame to local businesses but the reality is that it was never going to go ahead with 20+ large bombers and countless amounts of munitions littered across the base.

Despite all the chaos surrounding the area recently, it’s always good to see the 747 Having spent a lot of time on them over the years its nice to still see them out and about. Kalitta Air flying over the garden earlier this week
