@anxiousrekt (for the internet at large: i know she was joking. i know how deadpan works. i know (british/nz/aussie in approx order) deadpan is even more dead a pan. i also love that she's like "you guys are even more awful than i presume' bc...tbh it's true
BUT
it's funny)
English

@anxiousrekt *ahem* ...let us not throw stones at undoubtedly, glass houses, from libraries and/or cavernous nunneries

@ChillyWeirdo Ok that IS weird. Like. If we were still in the LJ days of "people can't know about fanfic" AND someone hadn't already asked her about the word chussy, fine. But.
English

@ChillyWeirdo -- that despite 'doleful' clearly coming from pain/sorrow (dolorous, etc) and 'bale' in baleful coming from an old old word for evil, the ARCHAIC usage of baleful IS almost the same as doleful. SO I'M GOING TO CLAIM I'M JUST IMMORTAL AND BEHIND THE TIMES
English

@ChillyWeirdo (Interestingly, the other day the one of those I tripped on was "baleful". Which I think I've been conflating with "doleful" and I'm blaming this ALL on the song Dona Dona as I keep imagining farm animals and both scan exactly the same way. Anyway, the WEIRDEST part is --

@chainborne @ChillyWeirdo If you're a fan of new words/linguistics, definitely, definitely read China Mieville, particularly Embassytown: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embassyto…

@theonlysei grungy Gideon with messy curly not-quite-hawk ginger undercut feels like an personal attack on my weaknesses ☺️

@darkbluetenn13 now rereading it: i remember i was (and am again) struck by his point that suicide SEEMS like revolting against (absurdity/life) but it isn't -- that the real revolt is persisting in life without reconciling absurdity
continuing to live as revolutionary is a pretty powerful idea.
English

@darkbluetenn13 gets to his ideas about suicide as a reaction to absurdity (which is that it must be rejected: "the point is to live"), but absurd freedom itself is ...kind of that you have to confront life as absurd and that you CAN'T reconcile or fix that through plan, death or anything else.

@NikkiA12 @neilrklein (Braugher was AMAZING in Homicide. I watched it religiously at…probably too young an age)
English

@NikkiA12 @neilrklein Homicide: LOTS by any chance? Would have likely also recognized Richard Belzer — he’s playing the same character he then played for many years in Law and Order (the two crossed over canonically).
English

@blakeaustinink (would get this SO fast if i was near NJ.)
English

@blakeaustinink it's matthias ...redwall!
also a really powerful apawthecaria party.
