The U.S. attempt to portray the number of co-sponsors of its politically motivated draft resolution as broad international support and proof of Iran’s isolation is both absurd and deceptive. No number of coerced co-sponsorships can legitimise Washington’s ongoing internationally wrongful acts against Iran, including maritime blockade, attacks on and illegal seizure of Iranian commercial vessels, and hostage-taking of their crews in a manner resembling piracy. The U.S. representative’s claims of broad backing are nothing more than a desperate effort to manufacture legitimacy for predetermined political objectives, undermine the credibility of the UN Security Council, and provide political cover for unlawful actions.
