(Part 1) Challenges as Captain Revealed at the World Championships I'm always aware of the support we receive from so many people. When we went to Manila, Philippines, for the World Championships in September 2025, I was surprised to see huge posters of us displayed everywhere. It was a little embarrassing, but it really motivated me. When I joined the Japanese national team as a freshman in college, the stands were barely filled. But now, every stadium is packed. I'm truly grateful. That's why I wanted to win a medal at the World Championships, but unfortunately, we were eliminated in the qualifying round. We had achieved good results in recent tournaments, and I was feeling the expectations of our supporters, so I felt ashamed and disappointed. There are probably many reasons for our loss, but one of them was my poor judgment as captain. I believe that the captain is the one who takes responsibility when we lose. The team itself was well-formed from practice onwards, and I thought we could somehow win, but that may have been a little off. The national team has had a new coach since 2024, and new players have joined the team. Young players were in the starting lineup for this tournament, but it seemed like they were doing all they could to focus on their own plays. This is only natural, as some of the players were playing in a major international tournament for the first time. We, the more experienced players, should have been able to provide more support for them. We also needed to unify the team's mindset from practice onwards.—
