@wintmint723 @LepaThewarrior Also because it is built like a tank in broad comparison to the PK, which is where it's 2-4Kg weight increase comes from. You can go through 500-1000 rounds with a single barrel as long as you are doing bursts for suppression as part of a Platoon/Coy attack

@wintmint723 @LepaThewarrior Would love a source for this since M240 Teams are expected to sustain 100 rounds a minute in the tripoded two man teams for US Rifle Platoon fires, or about 6000 rounds a hour, whilst PKP does 1000 rounds an hour

@LepaThewarrior @wintmint723 It's good to shoot but for being a General Purpose Machine Gun it really favours weight savings over sustained fires for a lot of reasons, just namely how the Soviets later Russians use it compared to MAG/other 7.62 MGs elsewhere

@wintmint723 Ignoring the PLAGF for a second, these aren't heavy tripoded weapons since they are easily man transportable by like two dudes, something you can't really do with the M2 or the Kords. It's just different use cases since PKP is a one man operation for the most part

@wintmint723 As a Section level LMG in 7.62 it's not bad as an option but the GPMG role for tripoded use doesn't really favour the pencil barrels of the PK series. Though stuff like Evolys and LAMG are coming up as lighter options to the PK
